April 19, 1949.
Pursuant to adjournment of April 5th, 1948, the City Council
met7t 7:00 P.M.
and was called to order by Mayor Bartlett.
Councilmen present: Greer, Terry, Langenbeck, Bartlett.
Councilmen absent: Hawes (Councilman Hawes arrived at 7:20 P.M.)
Mayor Bartlett appointed Councilman Greer on the Finance Committee.
Business On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Greer, the following business
Licenses
licenses were approved:
Wm. E. Roth, 1737 E. 16th Street, Long Beach 13, wheel -tax license
to deliver frozen foods.
R. Boyd Young, 22 W. Neece Street, Long Beach 5, to conduct
the business of roofing contractor.
Ray 0. Perkins, 7771 Fourteenth Street, Westminster, to
conduct the business of brick and mason contractor..
Joe P. and Fay Hensley, 229A Detroit Street, Huntington
Beach, to conduct cafe at 626 Main Street.
Esthreen 0. Budd, 408 Termino, Long Beach, to operate
Sno-White Bakery truck from house to house in the City

Oil Well permitsOn motion by Langenbeck seconded by Greer, the application of

State 64 On motion by Greer seconded by Langenbeck, the application of the
Southwest Exploration Company to drill new well known as "State" 64, was
approved.
State 72 On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Greer, the application of
Southwest Exploration Company to drill new well known as "State" 72,
was approved.'
Cadillac Oil Co. On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Greer, the application of the
26 41�8, Cadillac 011 Company to drill new well on Lots 26 and 28, Block 414, H. B.
Seventeenth Street Section, was approved, subject to filing of satisfactory
map.

Ord. #528 passed The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 529, an ordinance of the City 60uncil

.Council and final reading at this time•, and on.motion.by Langenbeck seconded by
Greer, Ordinance No. 529 was passed and adopted by the following roll call:

Reso.#1035 - The Clerk read Resolution No. 1035, a Resolution of the City Council
Lots 13-15 - of the City of liuntington'Beach, California, selling certain real property,

Lots 13 and 15, Block 315, Huntington Beach, and authorizing a Deed there-
for, and on motion by Langenbeck seconded by Greer, Resolution No. 1035
was passed and adopted by the following roll call:
AYES: Councilmen: Greer, Terry, Langenbeck, Bartlett.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: Hawes.
Drilling Bond The Clerk read a.letter from the Continental Casualty Company,
Cancelled
requesting release on drilling bond on Well C & D #5, Calumet Gold Mines
Company, as the well was never drilled, and on motion by,Greer seconded
by Langenbeck, the request was granted.
Hunter & Associates - The Clerk read a letter from Harry Hunter and Associates, asking
that lease be cancelled or transferred to Carlton Beal on Lots 21 and 23,
Block 616, H.B. Seventeenth Street Section, and on motion by Langenbeck
seconded by Greer, that the :request' of Hari jY,Kunter=•and Associates to
cancel the lease be granted, was approved.
Palm Tree The Clerk -read a letter from Myrtle E. Herlinger requesting the
removal of palm tree from in front of her property at 506 Ninth Street,
and on motion by Terry seconded by Greer, the request was granted.
Auditor's report The Clerk read report of Diehl and Company, auditors, the report
covered audit for quarter ending December 31, 1947, and on motion by
Bartlett seconded by Greer, that the report be accepted and filed, was
approved.
Demands On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Greer, demands approved by
the Finance Committee were ordered paid.

Mr. Brashears - The Clerk read proposal of J. W. Brashears to lease Lot 6 and
Proposal to
lease for southwesterly 15 feet of 9 in Block 314, Huntington Beach Tract, $50.00
Qil `
per month rental until well is on production, then 1/8th royalty thereafter.
The matter was referred to the Oil Committee.
Councilman At this time, 7:20 P.M., Councilman Hawes arrived.
Hawes arrived
H. B. Co. The Clerk read a letter from J. Sherman Denny, Manager of the
Huntington Beach Company, in regard to lease of beach frontage between
Sixth and Ninth Streets. No action was taken by the City Council.
Mr. Chamness The Clerk read a letter from L. S. Chamness making formal
application for lease on beach property to construct building for con-
cession at the foot of Eighth Street, at a rental to be decided on,
and on motion by Hawes seconded by Greer, that the application be
kept on file for future reference, was approved.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Terry, the Council adjourned. ,

The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order
at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor Bartlett.
Councilmen present: Greer, Terry, Hawes, Langenbeok, Bartlett.
Councilmen absent: None.
Canvass of ballots This being the date.set for canvassing ballots oast at the
General Municipal Election Tuesday, April 13, 1949, the City
Council proceeded to canvass and check the ballots oast.
Errors Three errors were found in the Tally Sheets, namely: that
the Election Board of Consolidated Precinct "A" had shown the
"YES" vote on Proposition 6, in the column marked Total to be
136, while the Talley Sheet itself showed 135 "YES" votes and
the City Council determined that same should read 135; and said
precinct with respect to Proposition No. S. in the column marked
Total had.shown the "YES" vote to be 100 in the column marked
Total, while the. Tally Sheet itself showed 109 "YES" votes and
the'City Council determined that same should read 109. That the
- Election Board of.Consolidated Precinct "D" showed'the ":VO" vote
on Proposition No. 9 to be 115 in the column marked Total while
the Tally Sheet itself showed 105 votes, and the City Council
determined that same should read 105. These errors were made
in writing the totals in the "Total Column" by the Election
Boards,
Resolution There being no further errors, the Clerk presented and read
#1036
Resolution No. 1036,-deolaring the results of said above named
General Election, and on motion by Langenbeok seconded by Hawes,
Resolution No. 1036 was passed and adopted by the following roll
call:
AYES: Councilmen: Greer, Terry, Hawes, Langenbeok, Bartlett.
NOES: Councilmen: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen: None.

Oath of
Office Mayor Bartlett administered the Oath of Office to City Clerk
John L. Henricksen.
The Clerk administered the Oath of Office to the newly
elected officers as follows:
Jack Greer, Councilman
Harry R. Le Bard,Councilman
Roy Seabridge, Councilman
William M.Clegg, City Treasurer
Dr. Hawes Councilman Hawes addressed the new and old members of the
Mayor Bartlett
City Council as well as the citizens present and stated that he
had enjoyed the six years of service as a member of the City
Council and expressed his appreciation to those that had so
ably cooperated and served with him.
Mayor Bartlett addressed the Council and thanked them for
their loyal support and cooperation during his term of office,
he thanked other city officials present, Mr. Gallienne, Public
Relations Secretary, and the Press for their splendid cooperation
at all times, and also stated that his four years as a member of .
the City Council had given him a larger viewpoint of the problems
of the City and that he had always worked with the other members
of the Council for the best interest of the City.
There being no further business to come before the Council,
on motion by Langenbeok seconded by Greer, the Council adjourned.

Monday, April 19, 1949
The Clerk"galled the new Council to order and informed them that
Mayor
the first order of business was that of choosing a mayor for the ensuring
two years. Whereupon, on motion by Langenbeek seconded by Seabridge,
that the City Clerk be instructed to cast a unanimous ballot for Jaok
Greer to serve as mayor, was approved.
'a$ror Greer Chief of Police Blossom escorted Mayor Greer to the Chair.
Mayor Greer thanked the City Council for their faith and confidence in
electing him mayor and at the same time expressed his appreciation and
thanks to Ted W. Bartlett and Councilman Hawes, retiring members of the
Council.
Mayor Greer announced that the Committees will be appointed at
the adjourned meeting to be held Monday night, April 26, 1949.
On motion by Langenbeek seconded by Terry, the Council adjourned
until 7:00 P. M. Monday, April 26, 1949.
