Monday, October 17, 1949
The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order
by Mayor Greer at 7:30 P.M.
Councilmen present.- LeBard, Wood, Langenbeck, Greer.
Councilmen absent: Seabridge.
On motion by LeBard seconded by Wood the application fdr

beauty shop. business license'of Margaret G. Sollars, 317 - 9th Street, to
conduct the business of beauty shop at 118 - 9th Street,was granted.

Protest of The City Clerk read a letter signed by six residents living
junk yard at
Nashville & on Lake Avenue protesting to the City Council and calling to their
"Wesley Sts,
attention that a junk yard is being established and conducted
along the Pacific Electric Railway Tracks easterly side between
Nashville and Wesley Streets, and further stated that the districting
ordinance provides that junk yards must be conducted inside of a
building, and also requesting the City Council to immediately take
action to have all rubbish, junk and other materials either removed
from the premises or placed inside suitable buildings to meet the
approval of the Building Inspector. Mayor Greer referred the request
to the Building Committee for further study and report.

Mayor Greer aeked if there was anyone in the audience to express
their opinions for or against the proposed general Streets and High-
ways Plan. On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that the portion
of the general plan of Streets and Highways as presented and outlined
by the maps, be referred back to the Planning Commission for further
review and requested some slight changes in street locations, was
approved.

The City Clerk announced to the City Council that the City
Employees of the City of Huntington Beach, voted by secret ballot
on Friday the 7th day of October, 1949 on the amendment to the City
contract with the State Employees' Retirement System, and presented
dealed envelopes with ballots and r equested that the City Council
make the tabulation. The following tabulation and results verified
by the City Council was as follows:

Beach in the California State Employees' Retirement System, making its
employees members of said system, its first reading.
The City'Clerk gave Ordinance No. 551, an ordinance of the City
of Huntington Beach, California, amending Ordinance No. 535, entitled
an ordinance of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach
creating various classes of positions and providing for the rate of
compensation of positions in each class and repealing all ordinances
or parts of ordinances in conflict therewith, as amended by adding
a new section thereto, its second reading, by reference.
On motion by LeBard seconded by Langenbeck Ordinance No. 551
was passed and adopted by the following.roll calls

On motion by LeBard seconded by Wood that the r ecommendations
of the Finance Committee to approve the publication of the annual
Clerk's Financial Report in the Huntington Beach News, was approved.
On motion by LeBard seconded by Langenbeck that the demands as
approved by the Finance Committee be paid, was approved.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that Mayor Greer be
authorized to attend the annual California League of Cities Convention
in San Francisco and all expenses be paid was approved.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that the r ecommenda-
tions of the Street Department Committee for the purchase of a Miti-
and that the Administrative Officer be authorized to purchase a Miti-
Midget air sander/at a cost of $79.50 was apT oved. Midget Air Sander

tions of the Sanitation Committee to construct a six inch sewer line
with necessary "Y" connections on Hartford Street between Delaware
and Florida Streets and that the City Engineer be authorized to pro-
ceed with the construction, was approved.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by LeBard that the City Attorney
be instructed to dra*. up an ordinance for connection fees to the .
sewer line to include Lots 1-2-3-4-5, Tract 1156, and the unsubdivided
area on the North side of Hartford Street between Lot A, Block 805,
Vista Del Mar Tract, and Florida Street, was apjr oved.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that the request for
both street lights to be lighted at Main and Mansion Streets, was
approved.
