HomeMy WebLinkAbout1949-12-12MINUTES Council Chamber, City Hall Huntington Beach, California Monday, December 12, 1949 Mayor Greer called the City Council of the City of Hunting- ton Beach to order at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Councilmen present: Wood, Seabridge, Langenbeck, Greer Councilmen absent: LeBard Mayor Greer appointed Councilman. Seabridge to act on the Finance Committee in the absence of Councilman LeBard. Business On motion by Wood seconded by Seabridge the following busi- Licenses ' ness licenses were granted; R. L. McMenomy, 6103 E. Seaside, Long Beach, California, dye works wagon. A. L. Honnell, 732 Williams Street, P. 0. Box 147, Huntington Beach, to conduct the business of merchandising at 602 Ocean Avenue. Orange County Refrigeration & Fixture Company, Inc., 302 E. Fifth Street, Santa Ana, California, to conduct the business of commer- cial refrigeration and restaurant equipment contracting. Norman's Landscaping and Design, 1313 Coast Highway, Corona Del Mar, California, to conduct the business of landscaping and design. Sowest Expl.Co. On motion by Seabridge seconded by Wood that application State J-82 of Southwest Exploration Company for oil well permit to drill a new well State J-82, was granted. " State 121 On motion by Seabridge seconded by Langenbeck that appli- cation of Southwest Exploration Company for oil well permit to drill a new well State 121, was granted. H.S.Britton - On motion by Wood seconded by Langenbeck the application neon sign of Herbert S. Britton for building permit to erect neon sign at 120 Main Street, was granted. Repair to The City Clerk read a letter from Harry A. Overmyer, City Mun. Pier - contract awarded Engineer, in which he advised the City Council he had investigated to Shannahan,Inc. the low bid submitted by Shannahan, Inc., 282 W. Santa Barbara Avenue, Los Angeles, California, and found it to be the lowest responsible bid for the repair of the Municipal Pier, On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Seabridge that the bid of Shannahan, Inc., of Los Angeles for the repair of the Municipal Pier and deck , be accepted and awarded and all other bids as received be rejected, was approved. Minutes - December 12, 1549 Automatic Wave On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that the Mayor Recorder, on Mun.Pier and the City Clerk be authorized to execute a permit between the City of Huntington Beach and the Beach Erosion Board, Corps of Engineers, Department of the Army, to install, operate and maintain all necessary float wells, tackle, and instrument housing for an automatic wave recorder on the outer end of the Lease #9301- Pac. Elec. R.R. Demands Cancell waste water charge on Dodge well. T.B.Talbert subdivision plan. Huntington Beach Pier, was approved. On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to execute Lease No. 9301, between the Pacific Electric Railway Company, and the City of Huntington Beach for the renewal of lease entered into on January 16, 1950 and ending January 16, 1935 and said renewal for the term beginning/Janu- ary 15, 1951, was approved. On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that the demands as approved by the Finance Committee be ordered paid, was approved. On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that the request of V. B. Walker, Trustee for Creditors of L. H. Dodge, for the cancellation of waste water disposal charges against the Dodge well located on 14th Street between Walnut and Olive Avenues, for the period Vom Nay,1948 to the present date, was approved. Tom Talbert appeared before the City Council and pre- sented his proposed subdividion plan covering acreage adjacent to Atlanta Avenue and asked the City Council to request the Huntington Beach Company to dedicate that portion necessary for the extension of Huntington Avenue'from Atlanta to High- way #101, as contained in the portion of the Streets and Highways Map of the Master Plan, adopted by the City of Hunt- ington Beach, and that he also would deed the necessary street right of way covering the other half of the proposed extension of Huntington Avenue, k Ninutea-January 3, 1950 On motion br Seabridge seconded by hood that the minutes for the Council nesting of December 12, 1949 be corrected to read as follews M yrar Greer appointed a comittee of the Streets and Parks rCamittee and the City Ingineer to contact Sherman DmW* instead of reading ONWW Greer appointed a aosnittes of Councilman langenbeck and City Engineer OverVW to contact Sherman DanV*9 as per para~ six of page #91 of the recarded minutes. Page #3• Minutes - December 12, 1�,9 requested by Tom Talbert. 17th St. Councilman Langenbeck, Chairman of the Streets and Parks Viaduct Road Committee, discussed with the City Council that it was necessary to negotiate for the purchase of Parcel A, as designated on the City Engineer's Map for the 17th Street viaduct road in Block 2401, Tract 77, for right of way purposes. Mayor Greer appointed Councilman Langenbeck and City Engineer Overmyer as a committee to contact the owners of the ' property for the purpose of negotiating the purchase.
