HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-10-09MINUTES Council Chamber, City Hall Huntington Beach, California Monday, October 9, 1950 Pursuant to adjournment of October 2, 1950, Mayor Langenbeck called the meeting -of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach to order at 7:30 p. m. Councilmen Present: Le Bard, Seabridge, Greer, Langenbeck Councilmen Absent: Talbert State 116 On motion by Greer, seconded by Seabridge, the application for oil well permit of Southwest Exploration Company to drill a new well, State 116, was granted. States 518 On motion by Seabridge, seconded by Le Bard, that the appli- cation for oil well permit of Southwest Exploration Company to drill a new well, State 518, was granted. Waste Water On motion by Le Bard, seconded by Seabridge, the application Permit Ratten for waste water permits of Sam Raizen for wells, Vidal #1 and Bryant #1 located on Lots 9 and 11, Block 414, Huntington Beach Tract, and Lots 2 and 4 in Block 413, Huntington Beach Tract, respectively, were granted. Est. Cost for. The Clerk read a letter from the City Engineer, Harry Improvement'of Indianapolis St. Overmyer, in which he presented to the City Council for consideration Delaware, Huntington and and approval plans and specifications for the resurfacing and improve - California Avenues went of Indianapolis Street, Del -aware Avenue, Huntington'Avenu e, California Avenue, as shown on the plans, and the estimated cost for the above mentioned work as $18,363.40 excluding certain grading and oiling on portions of Indianapolis and Delaware which will be done by City forces. Approval On motion by Seabridge, seconded by Greer., that the plans and specifications and special provisions for the resurfacing of Huntington Avenue, California Avenue, Delaware Avenue resurfacing and concrete curb and gutters on Indianapolis Street and concrete curb and gutters on Indianapolis Street and Florida Avenue, were approved. Resolution On motion by Greer, seconded by Seabridge, Resolution No. No. 1130 1130, a resolution of the City of Huntington Beach establishing the general prevailing rate of hourly wages for each craft or type of workman or mechanic needed in the resurfacing of Huntington Avenue from Atlanta Street to Joliet Street, resurfacing California Avenue. from Detroit Street to Frankfort Street, resurfacing Delaware Avenue L 89 1 4 page 2 Minutes - October 9, 1950 from Indianapolis Street to Knoxville Street, resurfacing and concrete curb and gutters on Indianapolis Street from Lake Avenue to Delaware Avenue and concrete curb and gutters on Indianapolis Street from Delaware Avenue to Hampshire Avenue and Florida Avenue from Geneva Street to Indianapolis Street, was passed and adopted by the following roll call: AYES: Le Bard, Seabridge, Greer, Langenbeck NOES: None ABSENT: Talbert On motion by Seabridge, seconded by Le Bard,• that Notice Invit- ing Sealed the City Clerk be authorized to have published in the Bids. News Huntington Beach.News on October 13th and 19th, the notice inviting sealed bids for the resurfacing and improvement of Indianapolis Street, Delaware Avenue, Huntington Avenue and California Avenue and bids to be opened at 5:00 P. m., October 24, 1950 in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, was approved. Sully -Miller The Clerk read a letter from the City Engineer, Bid Harry Overmyer, in which he referred to the City Council that hef had analyzed the bids submitted for the improvement of 17th Street and the analysis disclosed that the bid sub- mitted by Sully -Miller Contracting Company to be the lowest responsible bid. Sully -Miller On motion by Seabridge, seconded by Greer, that Contract-` the Sully -Miller Contracting Company be awarded a contract for the improvement of 17th Street in accordance with bid submitted October 2, 1950, and that all other bids received be rejected, and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be author- ized to execute the agreement between the City of Huntington Beach and the Sully -Miller Contracting Company, was approved. Tax Deeded The Clerk read a communication received from Don S. Property - Lots 15, 17, Mozely, County Tax Collector advising the City that they had 19 and 21, Block 215 HB a formal bid of $100.00 per lot from a Mr. W. P. Thompson of _ Los Angeles for the tax deeded property, described as Lots 15, 17, 19 and 21 in Block 215, Huntington Beach Tract, and inasmuch as the City of Huntington Beach has preferential right in the matter the City was requested to make -a formal bid for the lots, provided they are interested. Mozeley, County Tax Collector, regarding Lots 15, 1719' 19 and 21 in Block 215, Huntington Beach Tract, to the Real Estate Committee for study and report. The Clerk presented a bill from James C. Thompson, Wilmington, California covering 40 pieces of used lumber that was used for the 4th of July and Twin Convention Carnival. On motion by Greer, seconded by Seabridge, that the City of Huntington Beach does not see fit to purchase the lumber as listed in the invoice received from James C. Thompson of Wilmington, California, was approved. On motion by Le Bar d, seconded,by Greer, that the demands as approved by the.Finance Committee be ordered paid, was approved.
