HomeMy WebLinkAbout1952-06-17MINUTES Council Chamber, City Hall Huntington Beach, California Tuesday, June 17, 1952 In the absence of Mayor Seabridge the Clerk called the regular adjourned meeting of the City Council to order at 6:00 o'clock P.M. Councilmen present: Wood, Langenbeck, LeBard, Councilman Talbert arrived at 6:?0 P.M. Councilmen absent: Seabridge LeBard - Mayor On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that Council- oro tem man LeBard be appointed Mayor ,pro-tem in the absence of Mayor Seabridge, was approved. 2 acres on Hiway On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that the City #101 & Hamp- Council place a value on 2.045 acres of the City -owned fifty-two shire Ave. acres with a frontage of approximately 450' on Highway #101 and approximately 500' on Hampshire Avenue of a total sum of $309000100 the City to pay a 5% real estate commission on $25,000.00 and the City will install the curbs, gutters and roadway on the 50' setback on Highway #101 and Hampshire -Avenue, and any sale of the property to be subject to the following conditions:- that purchaser submit to the City of Huntington Beach plans and specifications of the proposed development, which plans and specifications must be approved by the City Council; the City reserves all mineral rights without right of surface entry but the right of subterranean entry as well as the right to whip- stock under said property is reserved to the City. This is not an offer to sell. Motion carried. Beach Cleaning The Clerk read a request of Fred R. Swartz, Chief Life - Crew guard, requesting the City Council's approval of the beach cleaning crew consisting of the positions of Equipment Operator, Truck Driver, two Laborers and the week -end Lifeguard. On motion by Wood seconded by Talbert that the positions submitted and requested by Fred R. Swartz, Chief Lifeguard, for a beach cleaning crew be accepted as temporary employment except the position of equipment operator, was approved by the follow- ing roll call vote: AYES:- Councilmen: Wood, Talbert, LeBard NOE S: Councilmen: Langenbeck ABSENT: Councilmen: Seabridge Lifeguard On motion by Talbert seconded by Langenbeck that the Insignia City Clerk be authorized to purchase lifeguard insignia badges Badges as requested by the Chief Lifeguard and said purchase not to • exceed forty (40) pairs, was approved. Minut e s - June 17, 1952 Life pre- The Council's attention was called to provisions of servers on pier Ordinance No. 24 that for every hundred lineal feet that the pier projects below the mean; -high water mark, one life pre- server of standard make capable of sustaining the weight in water of at least one adult human being. Each such life pre- server to .be attached to at least one hundred feet of quarter inch manila rope. Mayor pro-tem LeBard referred the provisions in Ord- inance No. 24 as read by the City Clerk to the Beach and Pier Committee for study and report. Ltr. to On motion by Talbert seconded by Langenbeck that the Flood Con- trol Bd.. City Clerk and the City Attorney draw up a letter directed to the Flood Control Board requesting that consideration be given in the 1952-1953 budget to take care of flood control water problems in the land areas adjacent and contiguous to the City of Huntington Beach was approved. On motion by Wood seconded by Langenbeck the regular adjourned meeting of the City of Huntington Beach adjourned until 6:00 o'clock P.M.
