Pursuant to adjournment of the City Council of April 20,
1953, Mayor Seabridge called the adjourned meeting of the City
Council of the City of Huntington Beach to order at 7:30
otclock P.M. '
Councilmen present: Wood, Talbert, Langenbeck, Seabridge
Councilmen absent: LeBard
Mayor Seabridge appointed Councilman Wood to act on the
Finance Committee in the absence of Councilman LeBard.
On motion by Wood seconded by Langenbeck the following
applications for license to conduct business in the City of
Huntington Beach were granted:
Albert Springer, dba A. & A. Oil Tool & Service Company, Long
Beach, the business of contractor - oil field service.
W. J. Lively, 211 Chicago, Huntington Beach, the business of
public dance at the Pavalon Ballroom, Main & Ocean.
Bellflower Egg Company, Bellflower, California, the business of
wholesale egg delivery, wheel -tax.
B. H. Neal, Plaster and Lathing Contractor.
H. Munsey & Son, delivering food products, wheel -tax.
The City Clerk read the termination of agreement between
the General Telephone Company of California formerly named
Associated Telephone Company, Ltd., and the City of Huntington
Beach to terminate the permit for attachment dated May 24, 1935,;
whereby the Licensor gave the Licensee the privilege to con-
struct, maintain, operate and remove a total of one cr,ossarm
contact on three poles of the Licensor, located in the Public
Camp Grounds of the City of Huntington Beach along the south
side of the Pacific Electric Railway's right-of-way.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Talbert that the
Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to execute the termina-
tion agreement between the General Telephone Company of California
and the City of Huntington Beach to terminate the permit for
attachment dated May 24, 1935, was approved.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that the re-
quest of Murl Rober.ds, 217 Joliet Street, for permission to
cut the curb for double driveway on Elmira Street, and single
driveway on California, --on Lots 9 and 10, Block 403, Vista;-, Del
Mar Tract, was granted subject to the supervision of the vao rk
by the City Engineer.

On motion by Wood seconded by Talbert that the classi-
fication description for CALL.FIREMAN be accepted and adopted,
was approved.
The Clerk read Lease No. 13916 between the Pacific
Electric Railway Company and the City of Huntington Beach
covering three irregularly shaped parcels of land located
between 9th Street and "A" -Street to be used solely and ex-
clusively for metered public auto parking with right to cross
tracks at indicated crossing points on the map attached to the
lease.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Talbert that the
demands as approved by the Finance Committee be ordered paid
was approved. ,
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that the City
Clerk be instructed to tender an offer to Lyndon A. Wells of
Huntington Beach, $250.00, for a 'grant deed covering a 30'
strip on Memphis Avenue on Lot 16 in the Watson's Addition, for
street purposes, was approved.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Talbert that the
City Engineer be instructed to prepare an estimate of cost to
prepare the parking area covered in the proposed lease No.
13916 between the Pacific Electric Railway Company and the City
of Huntington Beach as read by the City Clerk was approved.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that the City.
Attorney and the City C16rk arrange a meeting with the Pacific
Electric officials in order to go over some of the objectionable
clauses and conditions of the lease as read by the City Clerk
wa.s approved.
. City Attorney Bauer reported to the City Council that he
had discussed with the Pacific Indemnity Company Attorneys and
Dave Jones, local representative of the.Pacific Indemnity Com-
pany, regarding the proposed ban on diving from the pier and
briefly outlined some of the thinking of the Pacific Indemnity
Company Attorneys.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Wood that the City
Attorney and the City Administrator arrange a meeting vL th the

referred to the City Attorney to acquire information as to-vh at
steps are necessary to complete the vacating of the 17th Street
Underpass, was approved.
On motion by Langenbeck seconded by Wood that in ac-
cordance vA th recommendations of the Police and Fire Committee
that Chief of Police, Ben Dulaney, be permitted to attend the
Police Officer's Convention to be held at San Jose during the
month of May, and that expenses be allowed up to 0175.00, was
approved.
The Clerk read a letter recieved from residents living
in the vicinity of the Faust Lumber Mill and Yard at the corner
of -Highway #39 and Yorktown Street pointing out to the City
Council that a near disastrous. fire. occurred on April 24., 19539
and registered the following complaint:
"To the best of our knowledge the lumber mill and
yard is operating without a permit from the
Planning Commission and creates a fire hazard
and a public nuisance. The slashings from old
lumber is stacked on the ground -in a very hap-
hazard manner which creates the fire hazard and
public nuisance in that it is unsightly and is
full of termites and a breeding place for rats
and mice."
The Clerk reported to the City Council that the lumber
mill and yard does have a valid City License and it is operating
in a zone permitting such an operation, and that with the pos-
sible exception of five (5) signatures on the letter, all other
signers live outside the City limits. No action was taken on
the request.
On motion by Wood seconded by. Langenbeck the adjourned
meeting of the City Council of_ the..City of Huntington Beach
adjourned.
