HomeMy WebLinkAbout1953-08-18MINUTES HUNTINGTON BEACH PLANNING COMMISSION 7 Council Chamber, City Hall s _ Huntington Beach, Califnrnia Tuesday, August 18, 1953 Chairman Schryer called the meeting of the Planning Commission of the City of Huntington Beach to order at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Commissioners present: Schryer, Davis, Stang, Presson, Tunis Commissioners absent: Kettler, King, Secretary Henricksen Others present: City Attorney Bauer, Consultant Parks Minutes Minutes of the previous meeting were approved with- out changes or corrections as mailed by the Secretary. Members of the Planning Commission greeted Consultant - - Parks cordially and expressed their pleasure at his return. Letter A letter was read from Mr. William Gallienne, represent- C. of C. ing the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce, asking that the Planning Commission make a study and survey of the territory withih%the city limits northerly of Utica Street and bound by Hiway #39 and the Pacific Electric tracks, - - running north and south through Huntington Beach and extend- ing to approximately 17th Street, Huntington Beach. Reasons were given in the request. No definite action was taken but Chairman Schryer asked that the Committee on Streets and Highways meet and go over the matter and report back at the next meeting. Discussions Attorney Bauer brought up the question of rezoning and on various discussion given on the 52 acres, owned by the City, and also matters rezoning of the east side. It was conceded that apetition was the first step toward rezoning and same to be presented to the Planning Commission for action. Chairman Schryer pointed out how little revenue accrued to the individual in an oil lease compared to the inconvenience, etc. Jones Beach Consultant Parks gave an interesting talk on his visit Long Island to Jones Beach which is situated on Long Island, thirty- three miles from midtown Manhattan. He showed pictures he had taken while there, also literature that gave an idea of its size and beauty. This beach is state owned and so operated that visitors c o-operat in keeping the entire Park clean. Consultant Parks 13kened our beach here in Huntington Beach to it in some respects, pointing out that the top of the bluff here would be suitable for a Boardwalk. During the eourbe of this talk- some discussion was had on local taxation compared to the remuneration derived from visitors to our beached. Mr. Denny of the Huntington Beach Company attended the meeting and was asked by Chairman Schryer to enter into the discussions held on various matters. Chairman SebryeZ stated that he felt the evening well spent in discussing the matters that had been brought up and made especial reference to the importance of all committees becoming active in their particular division. Data of A circular was read giving the dates of the meeting of League of-- the League of California Cities at San Francisco, as October California 18-219 1953, Chairman Schryer stated that in the past the Cities Commissioner with the -highest record of attendance was selected to attend the Conference and that the same procedure would be followed this year, The check showed that Commissioner Tunis had attended most meetings and • would be delegated to attend** On motion by -Davis and seconded by Pressc) n the meeting of the Planning -Commission of the City of Huntington Beach adjourned. • ChairMVIII, • Secretary Pro-tem •
