Monday. January �, 1954
Mayor Seabridge called the regular meeting of the City
Council of the City of Huntington Beach to order at 7:30 o1clock
P. M.
Councilmen present: Bryant, 'Wood, LeBard, Seabridge
Councilmen absent: Talbert (Councilman Talbert arrived at
7:32 o'clock P.M.)
Minutes On motion by Wood seconded by LeBard the minutes for
the meetings of the City Council for the month of December, 1953,
as transcribed and mailed by the City Clerk be accepted and
ordered filed, was approved.
Monthly The Clerk read the reports for the month of December,
Reports
1953, of the City Treasurer, City Clerk, City Collector, City
Engineer, Manager of Municipal Trailer Park, Chief of Police,
Fire Chief, and Chief Lifeguard.
On motion by Wood seconded by LeBard the reports of the
department heads for the month of December, 1953, as read by the
City^Clerk be accepted and cmdered filed, was approved.
Business On motion by LeBard seconded by 'Wood the applications
Licenses
for license to conduct business in the City of Huntington Beach
were granted as follows:
Melva Bostrom, 421 - 8th Street, Huntington Beach, Rooming and
Boarding House at 421 - 8th Street, transfer from Wm. J. Mufford.
Armstrong Manufacturing Sales Company, Monterey Park, the business
of r6ofing contractor .
City to The Clerk read an order of the City Council vacating a
vacate
port. of portion of Seventeenth street in the City of Huntington Beach.
17th St.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Wood the Mayor and the
City Clerk be authorized to execute the order of the City Council
vacating a portion of Seventeenth Street in the City of Hunting-
ton Beach, was passed and adopted by the follow. ng roll call vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Bryant, Talbert, Wood, LeBard, Seabridge
NOES: Councilmen: None
ABSENT: Councilmen: None
Ord. #605, The Clerk gave Ordinance No. 605, an ordinance .of the
salaries,
1st read. City of Huntington Beach relating to the salaries and compensa-
tion of elective officials of the City of Huntington Beach repeal-
ing Sections 1444, 1444.1, 1446, and amending Sections 1441, 1442,
1443, lW5, 1447, to the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code, its
first reading.

salaries.,

of officers and employees of the City of Huntington Beach amend-
ing Sections 1591, 1591.1, 1592, 1592.11 1592.2, 1592.4, 1592.5,
1592.51, 1592.6, 1592.7, 1593, 1593.1, 1593.2, 1594, 1594.1,
1594.29 '594.3, '594.4, 1595, 1595.1, 1595.2, 1595.3, 1595.4,
1595.52 1596, 1596.3, 1596.8, 1596.81, 1596.820 1597, 1597.1,
1597.11, 1597.120 1597.2, 1598, 1598.1, 1598.2, 1598.3, 1598.4,

Purchase The Clerk read a letter received from Yeargan Bros, of
fill dirt
from Santa Ana, California, offering to furnish the City mith an
Yeargan
Bros., indefinite amount of fill dirt consisting of sand, clay and mixed
8,000 cu.
yds. soils, to be placed and put to fine grade between Highway #101
and Highway #39 in the City of Huntington Beach, at .a price of
$.50 per cubic yard, including fill dirt and grading.
On motion by Talbert seconded by Bryant that the City
Purchasing Agent be authorized to issue a purchase order to
Yeargan Bros. for 8, 000 cubic yards of fill dirt in accordance
with their written proposal at a price of $.50 per yard and said
fill dirt and grading to be acceptable to the City Engineer, was
approved.
Calif. The Clerk read a communication received from the California
Reas6arch
Corp. Research Corporation requesting permission from the City Council
to do certain experimental work at the Wantz landing relative to
making experimental protective coating tests on some of the steel
fenders attached to the piles.
Mayor Seabridge referred the request of the California
Research Corporation to the City Engineer and vi th the help
of
the City Attorney and the Beach and Pier Committee to study
request and report to the City Council.

On motion by Talbert seconded by Wood that the demands

approved by the Finance Committee be or der ed paid, was approved.
Elect.
City Engineer Overmyer asked the City Council if they

wished to do anything further in the revision of the present
elec-
trical code of the City, and stated that there were a number
of

sections that probably should be brought up,.to date.
Mayor Seabridge referred the request of the City Engineer
relative to the revision of the electrical code to the Building
and Insurance Committee, bity Engineer, Fire Chief and the City •
Attorney for study and report.
Reso.#1209- The Clerk read Resolution No: 1209, a resolution of inten-
set-batik
lines, passed tion of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach to estab-
lish set -back lines along portions of certain streets and public
ways in said City and giving notice of the time and place of a •
public hearing on said proposed set -back lines.
On motion by Wood seconded by Bryant Resolution 1209 was
passed and adopted by the following roll call vote:
AYES: Councilmen: Bryant, Talbert, Wood, LeBar d, Seabridge
NOES: Councilmen: None
ABSENT: Councilmen: None
On motion by Bryant seconded by LeBard the City Council of
the City of Huntington Beach adjourned until 6:00 o'clock P.M.
