Minutes On motion by Davis seconded by Tunis the minutes of
the Planning Commission of the City 'of Huntington Beach
for the meeting of December 15, 1953, be accepted as
mailed by the Secretary and ordered filed, was approved.
E.Stang- Commissioner Stang, Chairman of the Streets and
St.naming Highways and Street Numbering and Subdivision Committee
& St, of the Planning Commission, reported on the findings of
numbering the Committee relative to the study of street naming
plan and street numbering plan as follows:
Mr. Stang took up the street naming problem -by -sections
or districts of the City. If no objections were
offered to the proposal in any one area, he went to
the next area, and so on, until the whole City had
_ been covered. Ideas for new streets were also
-- proposed. The possibility of extending existing
^-numserieal and alphabetical systems was discussed.
It was brought out that the house numbering system
was directly affected by existing street names in
several instances. In othero words, to correct
some of the present inconsistencies in numbering,
name changes must be made.
The Committee recommended one change in the tentative
plan which would affect numbering in the area between
Quincy and Yorktown and between Main and 23rd Street.
This recommendation would cause any jump in the number-
ing on north -south streets to take place at an angle
in the street rather than at any other point.
The idea of using the names of stones or jewels for
streets south of Atlanta was changed to names of
flowers.
'The Commission decided to use the P. E. tracks, as far
south as Atlanta, for the dividing line for numbers
on E-V streets, as at present, except that said P. E.
track line produced straight southerly from Atlanta
to the Ocean be used instead of following the curved
tracks in that area to Ocean Avenue.

The Commission also decided to retain the names
"Main Street" and !Ocean Avenue", and to have the
name "Frankfort" extend from Main Street to Hamp-
shire on the tentative proposal. It also appeared
to be the concensus that northerly of the alphabeti-
cal system f or the east -west streets, new streets
be known as "Pf."B"; . etc.; and that the alphabeti-
cal system for north -south streets, beginning with
Alabama, be continued easterly beyond Hampshire
Avenue.
On motion by Davis secondedlby Presson the Planning
Commission request an informal meeting with the City
Councilmen at a convenient date to discuss the street
naming and street numbering plan and suggested the date
of February 2, 1954, was approved.

ton Beach adjourned.
