Mayor Terry called the regular meeting of the City
Council of the City of Huntington Beach to order at
7:30 o'clock P.I.
Councilmen present: Bryant, Lockett, Irby, Bartlett, Terry.
Councilmen absent : None.
Minutes On motion by Lockett seconded by Bartlett the
City Council minutes of the meetings of May 6th, May
20th, and May 27th, 1957 as transcribed and mailed by
the City Clerk be accepted and ordered filed. Motion
carried.
Monthly The Clerk read the reports of the Department
Reports
Heads received for the month of May, 1957.
On motion by Bartlett seconded by Irby the reports
for the month of May, 1957, of the City Clerk and City
Treasurer, City Engineer, Fire Chief, Manager of Muni-
cipal Trailer Park, Police Chief, and Superintendent of
Recreation, as read by the City Clek be accepted and
ordered filed. Motion carried.
Busial-ess On motion by Irby seconded by Bryant the
Licenses
applications for license to conduct business in the
City of Huntington Beach and as approved by the Build-
ing Inspector, Health Officer, Chief of Police, and
Fire Chief, were granted as follows:
E. H. Gerber, Midway City, general contractor, cement work.
Dorothy Johnson dba Dorothy's Shoe Store at 222 Main St.
Mark Downing Ford, used car lot at NE corner of Olive
and Fifth Street.

of the bond termiation be approved. Motion carried.

Pacific Indemnity Company drilling bond No. 227667 and
cleanup bond No. 227666 for well I and S #2, located
East of Highway #39 and north of Adams Street having
complied with Section 2427.1 and Section 2448.1 of
the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code and the operator
and the bonding company be notified of the bond
termination. Motion carried.

2nd reading;
of Ordinance No. 665, an ordinance of the City of
Huntington Beach relating to Secretary -Planning -
Technician and amending Section 1591.465 of the
Huntington Beach Ordinance Code.

No. 665, was passed and adopted by the following roll
call vote. -

tivities of the Lifeguard Department from January 1,
1957 to May 31, 1957.
On motion by Lockett seconded by Bryant the re --
port of the activities of the Lifeguard Department as
read by the City Clerk be accepted and ordered filed.

Lifeguard
Der to Moorhouse, Lifeguard Captain, outlining

1)ersonnel the lifeguard service for the City area
and County area to be placed into operation for the
summer months starting June 15th, 1957, and requested
permission to employ the following number persons
each working eight hoar days,forty hour week, as
follows:
1 - Lifeguard Captain
6 - Lifeguard Lieutenants
1 _ Typist Clerk
32 - Lifeguards
4 - Lifeguard Trainees
1 - Construction and Maintenance Man

and attached to the request was a list of the names
of persons who have qualified and passed the re-
quired tests under the lifeguard standards for the
various classes of employment.
On motion by Lockett seconded by Irby the
request of the Lifeguard Department to employ
personnel in the classifications as requested in
the communication as read by the Clerk be approved.
Motion carried.
Exec -ate On motion by Bartlett seconded by
Agreement re:
mutual aid Lockett the Mayor and the City
fire
protec1i,^n Clerk be authorized to execute the
agreement for mutual aid fire protection between
the City of Laguna Beach, a Municipal Corporation,
and the City of Huntington Beach, Municipal Cor-
poration. Motion carried.
Mayor Terry called a recess of the City
Council at 7:55 o'clock P.M.
The City Council reconvened at 8:30 o'clock

Sportfisring After considerable discussion by the

ferred to City Council relative to a proposed

lease agreement for the operation for an all day
sportfishing boat from the Municipal Pier, Mayor
Terry referred the proposed agreement for further
study to the Beach and Pier Committee.

for driveway at 719 Huntington Avenue, and the curb
to be cut on Hartford Street, and the work to be
done under the supervision and to the satisfaction
of the City Engineer, be approved. Motion carried.

requesting the City Council's permission to use City
property at Highway #101 and Huntington Avenue for the
location of their annual fireworks sales stand,
Mayor Terry referred the request of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars, Huntington Beach Post No. 7368 to the
Beach and Pier Committee for study and report.

Wells Building Inspector, re -Ported on his findings
relative to the nuisance presented by the John Foster
property which had been discussed at a prior meeting.
Mayor Terry referred the study relative to pro-
cedure to abate the nuisance of the John Foster pro-
perty to the City Attorney for further study and report.
City Employees= Councilman Bryant called attention to

the City Council that he has received numerous comp-
laints from residents, about City Employees using City
Cars for personal use from time to time.
On motion by Bryant seconded by Bartlett the
