HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-12-23235 M I N U T E S Council Chamber, City Hall Huntington Beach, California Monday, December 23, 1957 Pursuant to the adjournment of the meeting of the City Council of December 16, 1957 Mayor Terry called the regular adjourned meeting to order at 4:30 o'clock P.M. Councilmen present: Bryant, Irby, Lockett, Bartlett, Terry. Councilmen absent : None. Fetter filed The Clerk read a letter of transmittal filed by P'_:_nn .Comm re:Public by the Secretary of the Planning Commission Hearing Cond. Excp.filed by informing the City Council that the Planning Edison Co. for rezoni .r; -- Commission held a public hearing on the Con— G: r field Ave. ditional Petition filed by the Southern California Edison Company for rezoning for the proposed EDS facility location on Garfield Avenue East of Highway #39 and heard arguments for and against the petition at a regular held meeting on December 17, 1957. After the Planning Commission discussion and arguments re— garding the Edison Company proposal were completed the following motion was made: A motion was made by Davis seconded by Liles to recommend denial of the zoning change request with the stipulation that a con— ditional permit would be favorably considered and that the op— inions expressed by W. L. Weybright, the City Attorney, and the general public are to be incorporated in a finding of facts, On motion by Bartlett seconded by Irby that the Clerk be instructed to publish a legal notice in the Huntington Beach News, a newspaper of local circulation setting a public hearing for the Edison petition requesting a rezoning of their property located on Garfield Avenue Bast of Huntinglon Beach Blvd. and said hearing be set for 9:00 o'clock P.M. on Monday, January 6, 1958, be approved. Motion carried. Mr. Johnson, property owner in the area of the land re— quested for rezoning by the Edison Company addressed the City 236 #2 Mirutes -- Monday, December 23, 19"57 Council and stated that he and other property owners in the area desire that the zoning be kept in its present status primarily for home development for single resident and multi— ple resident use. peso.#125 The Clerk read Resolution No. 1325, a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach submitting a proposition to voters for the adoption of an Ordinance relating to the salary of the City Councilmen. On motion by Bryant seconded by Irby Resolution No. 1325 was passed and adopted by the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmen: Bryant, Lockett, Irby, Bartlett, Terry. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: None. Reso.#1326 The Clerk read Resolution No. 1326, a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach submitting the proposition to the voters for the adoption of an Ordinance making office of the Chief of Police an appoint— ive office. On motion by Lockett seconded by Irby Resolution No. 1326 was passed and adopted by the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmen: Bryant, Lockett, Irby, Bartlett, Terry. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: None. Reso.#1327 The Clerk read Resolution No. 1327, a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach submitting the proposition to the voters for the adoption of an Ordinance making the office of the City Attorney an appointive office. On motion by Lockett seconded by Bartlett Resolution No. 1327 was passed and adopted by the following rail call vote: AYES: Councilmen: Bryant, Irby, Lockett, Bartlett, Terry. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: None. 2. 237 Harper The Clerk reported that at the regular meeting of Annex the City Council. on December lb, 1957 a petition for annexation of uninhabited territory to the City of Huntington Beach to be known as the Harper Annexation was presented and that an examination of the voters records in the office of the Registrar in the County of Orange, Santa Ana, California, indicated that there are less than 12 registered voters residing witlhin the boundary of the pro- posed annexation as described in the petition and so cert- ified to by the City Clerk. Reso.#1328 The Clerk read Resolution No. 1328, a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach giving notice of the proposed annexation to City of Huntington Beach of that certain uninhabited territory described herein and designated as Harper Annexation and giving notice of time and place for hearing of protests thereto. On motion by Bartlett seconded by Bryant Resolution No. 1328 was passed and adopted by the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmen: Bryant, Lockett, Irby, Bartlett, Terry. NOES: Councilmen: None. ABSENT: Councilmen: None. On motion by Bryant seconded by Bartlett the adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach adjourned.
