HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966-05-03MINUTES Council Chamber, Civic Center Huntington Beach, California Tuesday, May 3, 1966 Mayor Stewart called the regular adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach to order at 6:30 P.M. The Pledge of Allegiance was given by all present in the Council Chamber. ROLL CALL Councilmen Present: Coen, Bartlett, Kaufman, Shipley, Green, Stewart Councilmen Absent: Gisler MAIL BOX ORDINANCE Ole, The City Administrator discussed with the Council the situation which has arisen since January 1st due to the requirement of the Post Office Department that all mailboxes in new subdivisions be placed imme-" diately inside the curbs. On motion by Kaufman, second Coen, the City Attorney was directed to prepare an ordinance to permit the installation of mail boxes immediately inside the curbs in the City's parkway in all subdivisions in which it is required by the Post Office Department. Motion carried. ADM STUDY - COLLECTION PROCEDURES Councilman Kaufman pointed out to the Council that the new Charter adopted by the people of Huntington Beach in January, 1966, made some changes in procedures for collection of City revenues. Following some discussion, on motion by Kaufman, second Coen, the Administrator was instructed to study and report on reorganizing the City's Finance Department and Treasurer's Department to conform to the new -'Charter. Motion carried. ,;I -ADM STUDY - BOND PROPOSAL On motion by Kaufman, second Coen, the Administrator was instructed to initiate a bond proposal to supplement Fire Department finances for capital outlay, and present same to the Council. Motion carried. EXECUTIVE SESSION Mayor Stewart called an executive session of the Council to meet immediately in the Conference room, for the purpose of discussing the City Attorney's budget and salary. Council wags reconvened by the Mayor in regular session at 9:10 P.M. ADM PREPARE CONTRACT - ATTY SERVICES t On motion by Kaufman, second Coen, the.Administrator was instructed 4-- to prepare a contract between the City and the City Attorney for services, which would be mutually agreeable with both parties. Motion carried. -36 Page #2 - Minutes, May'3, 1966 WOMENS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE -- SOUND TRUCK The Administrator presented a written request from the Womens' Division of the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce for permission to use a sound truck to canvass the City on May 4, 1966, to prdclaim the week of May 2nd through May 7th as "City Clean Up Week", and further requesting waiver of fees for such use. On motion by Shipley, second Bartlett, Council granted permission to the Womens' Division of the Chamber of Commerce to use a sound truck throughout the City oh May 4, 1966, with fees waived. Motion carried. INFORMAL MTO 3/9/66 Mayor Stewart called a meeting of the Council as an informal committee -of -the -whole for Monday, May 9, 1966, at 6:30 P.M. at the Sheraton -Beach Inn for a dinner meeting with the Urban Land Institute Citizens Steering Committee.
