Monday, June 12, 1967
Mayer Shipley called the regular adjourned meeting of the City Council
of the City of Huntington Beach to order at 7a '0 P.M.
The Pledge of Allegiance was given by all present in the Council Chamber
ROLL, CALL
Councilmen Present: Coen, Bartlett, Gisler, Kaufman, Green,, Shipley
Council -men Absent: Stewart

DEPUTY CITY CLERK APPOINTMENTS
On motion by Bartlett, Council confirmed the appointment by the City
Clerk of Daniel eta Brennan, License Inspector,, as a Deputy City''Clerk
limited to matters and transactions covering the issuance of business
licenses in the City and also confirmedthe appointment -by the City
Clerk of Margie Julian. to act as e Deputy City Clerk for the purpose
of administering loyalty earths to new Municipal ;ipal employees only.
Motion carried.

URPHY
On motion by Green, Council approved the appointment of, Gertrude
Murphy to fill the vacant position on the Library Board. Motion carried.
DRIFTWOOD INN PROPERTY
The City Administrator presented a letter from Peter J. Hansen, reptre
renting Hawkeye Development Company of Fullerton, stating their inten-
tion of purchasing the Sheraton Beach ,Ina and a rroundin property,, and
also of their intent to erect a 10 story high-rise hotel in fret of
the present building.
Mrs peter Hansen addressed the Council and answered the questibns of
the Council and stated their intentions,
Council directed. the City Clerk to include this item on the agenda for
the meeting, of June 19, 1967. There was no action on the matter at
this time.
DWYR GYM
Mire Norman Worthy, Director of Recreation and parks, a dreamed the
Council and reported an his Staff'a findings concerning the Recreation
Center, Dwyer Gas and the Lake Park Clubhouse. He presented three
plans for Council study.
Following considerable discussion, Councilman Kaufman made a motion to
defer any decision on the report from the Recreation Commission until
the meeting of June 19, 1.96 7 e Motion failed when put to a vote.
Councilman Green made a € otion to proceed with the employment of Tom
and Truski.er, architects In Anaheim, to become effective immediately.
The motion was withdrown. before being put to a vote.
On motion by Coen, Council deferred any decision on the report by the
Depart,ment of Parka and Recreation until the meeting of June l u

PAVALON LEASE - REFERRED
The Clerk presented. a request from Stanford Cammer, lea.aee of the Pavalon
Bonding, for approval to transfer the Ravalon lease from his name as
an individual to L,RX, Corporation.
On motion by Bartlett, Council referred this matter to the staff for
study and report., Motion carried,

PUBLIC HEARING - 1.967-68 BUDGET
Mayor Shipley announ€ced that this was the day and hour sat for a public
hearing on the Budget for the Fiscal. Year 1967- 8, and directed the
Clerk to read the legal notice
The Clerk read notice of public hearing as published In the Huntington
Beach Naves on June 1, 1967, setting the hour of 7:30 P.M., or as soon
thereafter as possible, on June 12, 1967, in the Council Chamber of the
Civic Center .for Huntington Beach, California, as the time and place
for a public hearing for the purpose of considering the Budget for the
Fiscal year 196768,
Mayor Shipley declared the hearing open,
Mark Porter, 19842 Providence Lane City, addressed the Council and
made several, inquiries of the Council regarding the proposed Budget
Joseph Werra, 17581 Gothard Street, City, addressed the Council and
requested information concerning the Budget.,

There being no one further to speak on the matter, and there being
no protests filed, either oral or written., the hearing was closed by
the Mayor.
Councilman Crean rude a motion to amend the 196 7-68 Budget to
include. 3 additional fire engineers, 18 additional firemen-hosen�€en,
1 additional. clerk -dispatcher, and I additional typist clerk to the
Fine Department's list of personnel.; to include 7 additional police
officers and additional capi.tal outlay of $ , 42400 for the Police
Hepartment ga Budget; and to direct the staff to establish an employ ent
schedule to correspond with income contingent on a review by the
Council following receipt of assessed valuati.on figures from the
County, When put to a vote the motion failed,
Councilman Green made a. motion to amend the budget to include a
step -raise for the Recreation Director and the Cit, Librarian. This,
motion was withdrawn before put to a votes
