National Bank Building Huntington Beach, California Wednesday, November 15, 1967 BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: John Mandrell, Sam Ferguson, Richard Harlow BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: None MINUTES: The minutes of October 11, 1967 were accepted as transcribed and mailed by the Secretary. AREA VARIANCE NO. 67-82 Applicant: Kool Metal Awning Company To allow an unenclosed patio cover to be constructed 8' from the exterior side property line in deviation to the required 101 setback. Located at 16522 Rhone Drive and legally described as Lot 133 of Tract No. 3420. The hearing was opened to the audience. There being no one present to speak for or against the matter the hearing was closed. Board discussion followed. A MOTION WAS MADE BY HARLOW AND SECONDED BY FERGUSON TO DENY AREA VARIANCE NO. 67-82. ROLL CALL VOTE: AYES: Mandrell, NOES: None ABSENT: None THE MOTION CARRIED. Ferguson, Harlow. AREA VARIANCE NO. 67-83 Applicant: Huntington Center To allow a detached sign, approximately 654 sq. ft. in area, to be located within the 50 ft. front yard setback in deviation to the maximum 200 sq. ft. of sign area. Located on the west side of Beach Boulevard, approximately 300 ft. north of Edinger Avenue. Legal description on file in the Planning Department Office. The hearing was opened to the audience. Bill Wren, representing the Huntington Center, addressed the Board and explained the reasons for the request. He explained that the reader board portion of the sign would be blocked by the freeway overpass if set back 501. Photos of the proposed sign area were shown by Mr. Wren. There being no other comment, the hearing was closed to the audience. Board discussion followed. A MOTION WAS MADE BY MANDRELL AND SECONDED BY HARLOW TO DENY AREA VARIANCE NO. 67-83 FOR THE FOLLOWING REASON: 11/15/67 Minutes: Board of Zoning Adjustments Wednesday, November 15, 1967 Page No. 2 1. The sign can be designed in a manner which will comply with the code. ROLL CALL VOTE: AYES: Mandrell, Ferguson, Harlow NOES: None ABSENT: None THE MOTION CARRIED. AREA VARIANCE NO. 67-84 Applicant: Merlin Smith To allow an attached portion of a main dwelling to be constructed 5' , from the rear property line in deviation to the required 10' rear yard setback. Located at 6401 Reubin Drive and legally described as Lot 14 of Tract No. 5450. The hearing was opened to the audience. A letter of opposition from Edwin Canfield, adjacent property owner, was read. Mr. Canfield also addressed the Board and opposed the request. Sid Aldous and Alida Worthington, representing the applicant, addressed the Board and explained the request. There being no other comment, the hearing was closed. A MOTION WAS MADE BY HARLOW AND SECONDED BY FERGUSON TO DENY AREA VARIANCE NO. 67-84 FOR THE FOLLOW- ING REASON: 1. The applicant failed to show sufficient justification for the request.
