Wednesday, May 22, 1968 Mandrell, Ferguson, Harlow None To permit the construction of a carport in the R1 Single Family,Residence District. Located at 6022 Medford Drive. Legally described as Lot 1 of Tract No. 4573. The hearing was opened to the audience. Lee Snidow, applicant, addressed the Board and answered various questions. There being no further comment, the hearing was closed to the audience. Board discussion followed. A MOTION WAS MADE BY HARLOW AND SECONDED BY FERGUSON TO APPROVE USE PERMIT NO..68-14 WITH THE 20 FT. SETBACK AS SHOWN ON THE PLOT PLAN'FOR THE FOLLOWING•REASON: 1. Garages in the area all conform to a 20 ft-. setback requirement previously in force in the City. ROLL CALL VOTE: AYES: Mandrell, Ferguson, Harlow NOES: None ABSENT: None THE MOTION CARRIED. CONDITIONAL EXCEPTION NO. 68-17 Applicant: General Maintenance To allow the construction of a 7 ft. high rock base Identification Sign having a diameter of 6 ft. Said sign will not provide the required 10 ft. ground clearance for signs over 5 ft. in height in the C-4 Highway Comrgprcial District. Located at.the northwest corner of Algonquin St. and Davenport Dr. -Legal descrip- tion on file in the Planning Department Office. The hearing was opened to the audience. Don Fink, representing the applicant, and Angie Gattuso, representing Gulf Oil, addressed the Board and explained the proposal. Mrs. Kenneth Martin and Mrs. A. Martin, 17041 Courtney, Mrs. H. E. Johnson, 16981 Bolero, Mrs. Charlene Bower, 16911 Bedford, and Mrs. Norman Whipple, 16991 Courtney addressed the Board, asked questions about the request and opposed a high sign in the area. A MOTION WAS MADE BY FERGUSON AND SECONDED BY MANDRELL TO APPROVE CONDITIONAL„ EXCEPTION NO. 68-17 SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS: 1. Otherethan the existing signs on the building, no additional permanent signs shall be permitted. 2. A 25' x 25' corner cut-off shall be maintained at the street intersection. 3. The sign shall be located within the landscaped area. 4. The sign shall be stationary, non -revolving, approximately 7 ft'. high and 8 ft. wide. ROLL CALL VOTE: AYES: Mandrell, Ferguson, Harlow NOESL None ABSENT: None THE MOTION CARRIED. CONDITIONAL EXCEPTION NO. 68-18 Applicant: Ray Stober, Inc. To allow the installa- tion of a 90 ft. high Freeway oriented'I.D. sign in deviation to the required 50 ft. height limit in the C2 Community Business District. Located'ori the NW'corner of Warner Ave. and Magnolia Street. Legal description on file in the Planning Department Office. to the audience. The hearing was opened Ray Stober, applicant, addressed the Board and explained the reasons for the request. There being no further comment, the hearing was closed. Board discussion followed. A MOTION WAS MADE BY FERGUSON AND SECONDED BY HARLOW TO CONTINUE CONDITIONAL EXCEPTION NO. 68-18 TO JUNE 129 1968 TO ALLOW'ON-SITE INVESTIGATION OF THE REQUEST. The Board reviewed the variance. A MOTION WAS MADE BY FERGUSON AND SECONDED BY HARLOW TO INSTRUCT THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT TO WRITE A LETTER TO THE ORANGE COUNTY ZONING ADMINISTRA- TOR RECOMMMNDING THAT USE VARIANCE NO. 6034 CONFORM TO THE DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS RECOMMENDED IN THE SUNSET BEACH-SURFSMDE STUDY.
