HomeMy WebLinkAbout1969-06-09MINUTES Council Chamber, Civic Center Huntington Beach, California Monday, June 9, 1969 The regular adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Green. _QAT.T. r aT 7- Councilmen Present: Bartlett, McCracken, Matney, Coen, Green, Shipley (arrived at 7:35 P.M.) Councilmen Absent: Kaufman RECESS Mayor Green called a recess of the Council at 7:35 P.M. to hold an informal discussion regarding construction and methods of financing the proposed civic center. A proposal from the William J. Moran Company was presented for consideration by the City Administrator. Some dis- cussion was also held concerning possible financial and legal consultants. The meeting was reconvened at 8:32 P.M. by the Mayor. �a - �A 4- LEGISLATIVE INTERN CANDIDATES - INTERVIEWS Mayor Green appointed Councilman Shipley and himself as a committee to assist in interviewing legislative intern candidates from various colleges in the area to be employed for the summer months. ARCHITECTURAL FIRMS FOR LIBRARY BUILDING - INTERVIEWS Discussion was held by the Council concerning the interviewing of various architectural firms to be used in design of the new library building. Council made a decision to have both the Library Board and the Design Review Board interview prospective firms and make a selection of three to be presented to the Council for final determination. BOND CONSULTANTS - STONE AND YOUNGBERG On motion by McCracken, Council directed the City Administrator to negotiate an agreement with the firm of Stone and Youngberg to serve the city as bond consultants in the sale of the Park and Recreation bonds approved by the voters at the election June 3rd. Motion carried. �! I - LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS - INTERVIEWS On motion by Bartlett, Council directed that interviews be -held with the three top landscape architects which had previously been selected, in connection with future park landscaping. Motion carried. ; � 5gV3 U S ARMY ENGINEER CORPS - HUNTINGTON HARBOUR BOAT SLIPS Mayor Green requested Councilmen McCracken and Bartlett to sit in on a meeting scheduled to be held by the U. S. Army Engineering Corps to study proposals of the Huntington Harbour Corporation for the installa- tion of boat slips in some of the channels of their development. 866 1 Page # 2 - Council Minutes - 6/9/69 t JOINT PROCLAMATION - "DANNY RAMOS DAY" Mayor Green informed the Council and the audience that a proclamation had been issued jointly by Mayor Robert Schwerdtfeger of Fountain Valley and himself on behalf of the City of Huntington Beach proclaiming ,June 18, 1969 as "Danny Ramos Day". The Mayor stated that a benefit is scheduled to be held at the Huntington Beach High School auditorium on June 18th at 7.30 P.M. in an endeavor to raise funds to assist in covering doctor bills for young Ramos who was injured in an automobile accident, as the family had no medical insurance. NATIONAL LEAGUE WEEK - JUNE 8TH THROUGH 14TH Mayor Green informed the Council and the audience that the week of ,Tune 8th through 14th has been designated by President Nixon as "National Little League" week. He stated that there are presently four Little League organizations in the City, and he commended these groups for their work among some 1500 boys in the City. RECESS Mayor Green called a recess of the Council at 8:38 P.M. and directed that an executive session of the Council would be held at 9:00 P.M. in the Administrative Annex to discuss personnel appointments. The meeting was reconvened at 9.35 P,M, by the Mayor. gig. �� THOMAS COOPER/ROBERT COOPER - REAPPOINTED TO PARKS & RECREATION COMM. On motion by McCracken, Council reappointed Mr. "Thomas Cooper and Mr. Robert Cooper as members of the City Parks & Recreation Commission to serve for four year terms. Motion carried. ADJOURNMENT On motion by Shipley, the regular adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach adjourned to Tuesday, ,June 10, 1969 at 12.01 AoMo Motion carried.
