HomeMy WebLinkAbout1973-07-06 (6)MINUTES Council Chamber, Civic Center Huntington Beach, California Friday, July 6, 1973 Mayor Pro Tempore Duke called the adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach to order at 5:00 P.M. The Pledge of Allegiance was given by all present in the Council Chamber. ROLL CALL Councilmen Present: Shipley, Bartlett, Green, Coen, Duke Gibbs - (arrived 5:43 P.M.) Matney - (arrived 6:00 P.M.) Councilmen Absent: None EXECUTIVE SESSION CALLED 'Mayor Pro Tempore Duke called an Executive Session of the Council to discuss litigation matters. RECESS The Mayor Pro Tempore called a recess of the Council at 5:35 P.M. RECONVENE The meeting was reconvened at 7:10 P.M. by Mayor Matney. RESOLUTION NO. 3729 - ADOPTED - CONTRACT - CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED BY ROBERT TERRY The Deputy City Clerk read Resolution No. 3729 by title - "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE CONTRACT WITH CERTAIN PARTIES IN CONNECTION WITH THE CLASS ACTION ]LAWSUIT FILED BY ROBERT TERRY." On motion by Green, Council waived further reading of Resolution No. 3729 and adopted same by the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmen: Shipley, Bartlett, Green, Coen, Duke, Matney NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen- Gibbs EMPLOYMENT OF WILLIAM SHERMAN - APPRAISER - APPROVED A motion was made by Councilman Green to employ Mr. William Sherman as an appraiser for the City in an amount not to exceed $4000 to appraise property for possible City purchase. The motion was passed by the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmen: Shipley, Bartlett, Green, Coen, Duke, Matney NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: Gibbs 20 Page #2 - Council Minutes - 7/6/73 ESCROW DATE - MEADOWLARK GOLF COURSE PROPERTY The City Administrator reported that the escrow date for the Meadowlark Golf Course property was July 23, 1973 rather than July 8, 1973. Councilman Duke added that the Council is attempting to negotiate an agreement to acquire Meadowlark Golf Course. DISPOSITION OF PROPERTY - LOS PATOS DRMIMARINA VIEW PLACE The City Administrator reported on the disposition of the property located at Los Patos Drive and Marina View Place. The Executive Assistant distributed maps of the area for Council's information. Discussion was held by Council on the matter. On motion by Matney, Council directed that the resolution declaring said property surplus be held in abeyance until such time as the Planning Commission takes action on the plan proposed for the adjacent property. The motion was passed by the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmen: Shipley, NOES: Councilmen: Coen ABSENT: Councilmen: Gibbs Bartlett, Green, Duke, Matney ATTENDANCE AUTHORIZED - CITY ADMINISTRATOR PUBLIC TECHNOLOGY INC. CONFERENCE A motion was made by Councilman Shipley to authorize the City Administrator to attend, at no expense to the City, the Public Technology Inc., Conference to be .held July 11-13, 1973 in Washington, D. C. The motion was passed by the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmen: Shipley, Bartlett, Green, Coen, Duke, Matney NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen: Gibbs ABSENCE FROM STATE AUTHORIZED - COUNCII24AN SHIPLEY On motion by Green, Council approved Councilman Shipley's absence from the State for the forthcoming three regular Council meetings, by the following roll call vote: AYES- Councilmen: Bartlett, Green,'Coen, Duke, Matney NOES: Councilmen: None ABSENT: Councilmen; Gibbs ABSTAIN: Councilmen: Shipley RESIGNATION OF DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS The City Administrator informed Council that Mr. James Wheeler, Director of Public Works, had submitted his resignation to accept an appointment to the position of Director of Public Works of the Trust Territory of the Pacific.
