HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-05-04'vim` ti✓' MINUTES Adjourned Reguiar Meeting Council Chamber, Civic Center Tuesday; May 4 , 1976 Mayor Wieder called the adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of. thO-..City of Huntington Beach to order at 7:50 P.M., themeeting was called fo.r 7:00 P.M., however there was not a quorum until 7:50 P.M. Roll -Call Present: Pattinson, Coen, Wieder, Siebert (arrived 7:50 P.M.), Shenkma.n - (arrived 8:00 P.M.), Gibbs -'(arrived B-09 P.M.) Absent: Bartlett ASSIGNMENT OF LEASE - SHERATON BEACH INN & DRIFTWOOD BEACH CLUB-HUNTINGTON DRIFTWOOD INN A proposed assignment.of the Sheraton Beach inn and the Driftwood Beach Club Lease.between the City and Huntington Ltd., to Ten Hotels, Inc., was presented for Council's consideration, Mayor Wieder presented a resumed* of the discussion held between the proposed assignee and Councilmen Coen, Pattinson and herself. prior to the arrival of Councilman Siebert and the convening of the.Council meeting. Discussion was held between the Council, Mr. Lionel Fogelman, President of Ten ' . Hotels, Inc., Tom Welts, attorney for Driftwood Mobile Home Park, and Dick Singer, attorney for Mr.. Fogelman, regarding various aspects of the proposed assignment The City Attorney referred Council to the City Attorney's memorandum dated April 29., 1976. Liscussion'was held and .the City Attorney reported on the ramification$ of the proposed assignment, Councilman Coen left the meeting 8:20 P.M. Mr. Bill Foster, representing the Huntington Beach .Economic Advisory Com- mission spoke regarding the proposed lease and 'what he believed to be the prospects of a successful operation. The City Attorney reported further on the matter. The Director of Harbors, Beaches and Development addressed Council regarding alternatives which he believed were available to.the City, and Deputy Attorney Amsbary also spoke regarding this aspect. The matter of splitting the lease was also.discussed. Councilman Shgnkman spoke regarding,.the matter and the debt obligation. Mr. Fogelman and Mr. Singer replied to the matter and discussion was held.. The City Attorney reported on matters pertaining to the present lease. Mr..Wells, in response to a question by Councilman Pattinson, stated the reason why he was in attendance, and discussion was held regarding the operation of the trailer park. RECESS Mayor Gibbs called a recess of the Council at 9:05 P;M. Page #2 - Adjourned Regular Mectiiig Minutcs - 5/4/76 RECOVENE The meeting was reconvened at 9:25 P.M. with Councilwoman Gibbs recorded absent. Mr. Wells addressed Council regarding the operation of the trailer park in relation to the proposed assignment. He also spoke regarding matters pertairi- ing to the proposed lease, Mayor Gibbs appointed Councilman Shenkman, Councilman Coen, a representative of the City Attorney's office, the Director of Harbors, Beaches and Develop- ment, and Mr. William Foster, representative of the Huntington Beach Economic Advisory Commission to a committee to study the' proposed assignment and to report back to Council within.30 days. Councilman Shenkman was designated the Convening Chairman. ADJOURNMENT on motion by Pattinson, second by Siebert, the adjourned regular mceting of the City Council adjourned at 10:50 P.M., to Monday, May 10, 1976 at 7:00 11-M., in the Council Chamber.
