Home My WebLink About2001-01-29Special Meeting Minutes City Council of the City Of Huntington Beach 5:30 P.M. - Council Chambers Civic Center, 2000 Main Street Huntington Beach, California 92648 Monday, January 29, 2001 Call to Order Mayor Julien Houchen called the special meetings of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers. City Council Special Meeting Roll Call Present: Green, Boardman, Cook, Julien Houchen, Garofalo, Dettloff, Bauer Absent: None City Clerk Read Call for Special Meeting Public Comments (Restricted to Agenda Item Only) Kreg Muller, representing the Huntington Beach Police Officers' Association, addressed Council regarding issues leading up to the development of the outside mediator's proposal to the city relative to negotiation issues. Dennis Hashin, representing the Huntington Beach Police Officers' Association informed Council that their position has been reduced substantially and spoke regarding the areas of proposed reductions. Russell Reinhart, representing the Huntington Beach Police Officers' Association stated that the mediator's proposal will be accepted. He requested that Council take time and consideration in this matter, as will the Police Officers' Association. Chuck Scheid submitted a letter to Council which he stated he had planned to submit prior to this Special City Council meeting being called. The letter is dated January 29, 2001, and entitled Subject. Special City Council Session — 29 January 2001. Mr. Scheid requested that when the RCA (Request for Council Action) is prepared for submittal at a future Council meeting, that each line item that has changed be reflected as well as the total amount of dollars corresponding to the line item. He presented a copy of his aforementioned letter to the City Clerk. Dave Sullivan, past Councilmember, spoke regarding the proposal for caps and medical and retirement benefits being previously discussed and that he hopes these are in the proposed agreement. Dr. Sullivan stated he hopes that the Fire Department and Police Department employees will receive equal contracts. The motion carried by the following roll call vote. AYES: Green, Boardman, Cook, Julien Houchen, Garofalo, Dettloff, Bauer NOES: None ABSENT: None (City Council) Closed Session — Pursuant to Government Code Section 54957.6 to meet with its designated representatives, Agency Negotiators: William Workman, Assistant City Administrator; William Osness, Personnel Director; and Daniel Cassidy, Esquire of t_iebert, Cassidy, and Frierson regarding labor relations matters — meet and confer with the following employee organization: HBPOA. (120.80) Reconvened City Council Meeting Adjournment — City Council Mayor Julien Houchen adjourned the Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach.
