The Planning Commission and City staff members toured the Huntington Central Park
Equestrian Center located at 18381 Goldenwest in Huntington Beach, with applicant Mary
Warren, Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center, regarding Entitlement Plan Amendment
No. 98-12 / Variance No. 00-16.
• The applicant and staff explained the requested Entitlement Plan Amendment to allow the
construction of additional amenities at the Equestrian Center. The proposal includes: 1) three
office/service trailers ranging from 240 to 720 square feet; 2) twenty pipe corrals; 3) three
farrier work stations; 4) three wash racks; 5) six cross ties; 6) three manure bins totaling 6,550
square feet; 7) a 4,000 square foot maintenance yard with a metal building and two storage
boxes; and 8) an eight foot high wrought iron fence along the rear lease line. A variance is
also requested to reduce the required number of horse trailer parking spaces from 42 down to
six.
During the tour staff explained the issues pertaining to water quality, erosion control, the
variance request, and potential revisions to the equestrian center site plan. The applicant
expressed concerns regarding the cost of the staff recommend improvements and proposed
revisions to the site plan. Staff will continue to meet with the applicant and their engineer to try
and achieve an acceptable solution.
