RECESS TO CLOSED SESSION
A motion was made by Bohr, second Dwyer to recess to Closed Session. The motion carried
by the following vote:
AYES: Shaw, Harper, Hansen, Carchio, Bohr, Dwyer, and Boardman
NOES: None
CLOSED SESSION
1. Pursuant to Government Code § 54956.9, the City Council recessed into Closed
Session to confer with the City Attorney regarding the following lawsuit: Miranda Sosa v. City
of Huntington Beach, et al., Orange County Superior Court Case No. 30-2011-00456969. In
this case, Plaintiff, Miranda Sosa was lying on the beach when she was struck by left front tire of
a lifeguard truck.

Colleen Faris, Teacher at Brethren Christian School, thanked Councilmembers for their
participation in classroom government exercises. She also voiced concerns about increased
parking fees for the disabled who utilize the all -day lot at Beach Blvd. and Huntington Street,
and a need to place additional bike racks on 6th Street downtown. (00:04:39)
Sam Eagle voiced concerns about a recent newspaper article that reported twenty-three
intersections scheduled to receive left turn arrows, requesting that Council carefully consider
each location based on merit of the accident information reported. (00:07:26)
Kelsey Bartlett, Brethren Christian School student, thanked Council for their service to the City
and requested increased Police presence during the U.S. Open of Surfing. (00:10:47)
Jake Poss, Brethren Christian School student, thanked Council for their service to the City.

Priscilla Malerbe, Brethren Christian School student, thanked Council for their service to the

Stephanie Deagle, Chair of Relay for Life Huntington Beach, thanked Council for their continued
support and introduced Relay for Life Senior Manager Alicia Mucillo. She also announced a
Relay for Life kickoff event to be held on January 26, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the
Huntington Central Library. (00:13:40)

Kreg Muller, Huntington Beach Police Officers' Association (HBPOA), thanked Mayor Carchio
for his service as Mayor, and welcomed Mayor Elect Don Hansen. (00:17:05)
Calvin Free, Mr. Huntington Beach, thanked Joe Carchio for his service as Mayor, and
welcomed Mayor Elect Don Hansen. He provided a gift - USC (University of Surf City) Mayor

City Clerk Joan Flynn administered the oath of office to Mayor Hansen.

A motion was made by Bohr, second Harper to elect Devin Dwyer as Mayor Pro Tempore. The
