AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE OFFICES OF SUPERINTENDENT OF STREETS
AND CITY ENGINEER, DEFINING THEIR DUTIES AND FIXING THEIR
SALARIES.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Huntington Beach do ordain as follows:
Section 1. The offices of Superintendent of streets and City Engineer of the City
of Huntington Beach are hereby created and established, the incumbents of which shall
be appointed by and hold office at the pleasure of the Board of Trustees.
Section 2. The Superintendent of Streets and City Engineer of the City of
Huntington Beach shall, before entering upon their duties, each execute a bond in favor
of the City of Huntington Beach, to be approved by the Board of Trustees, for the faithful
performance of the duties of their respective offices, in the sum of five hundred dollars
($500.00)
Section 3. The Superintendent of Streets shall receive a month salary of$15.00
per month.
Section 4. The City Engineer shall receive the sum of$5.00 per day for each day
of his own time devoted to said work. This necessary help and assistants shall be paid by
this Board as other laborers.
Section 5. The Superintendent of Streets shall oversee and control all work and
labor done on the streets, alleys and sidewalks of this City, and shall see that the same
conform to the law and the orders of this Board and ordinances of this City.
Section 6. The City Engineer under the directions of the Board of Trustees, shall
fix the grades of streets, alleys, and sidewalks in this City, make such maps, plans, cross
— sections and specifications as are required of him, and perform such engineering duties
as are referred to and required of him by the Board of Trustees of this City.
He shall keep a record of all proceedings and surveys made by him at the
direction of the said Board, and all records, calculations, data, books, maps, plans and
profiles shall be and remain the property of the City of Huntington Beach, and shall be
kept in a secure place, open to public inspection.
Section 7. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict here with are hereby
repealed
Section 8. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance and cause
the same to be printed and published once in the Huntington Beach News a newspaper
printed and published in the City of Huntington Beach and thereupon and there after it
shall take effect and be in full force.

the foregoing Ordinance was passed at a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the
City of Huntington Beach, held on the 121h day of April 1909. by the following vote
Ayes. C.W. Warner, D.O. Stewart, C. H. Howard. M.E. Helme Ed Manning
Noes. None.

copy of an ordinance of the City of Huntington Beach Numbered 13 and entitled, "An
Ordinance creating the offices of Superintendent of Streets and City Engineer. Defining
their duties and fixing their salaries."

published and printed in the City of Huntington Beach according to law.
