HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #41 ORDINANCE NO. 41. AN ORDINANCE CALLING AND PROVIDING FOR THE GENERAL BI ANNUAL ELECTION OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA, FOR THE YEAR 1910. APPOINTING AND FIXING THE COMPENSATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF ELECTION, AND FIXING THE POLLING PLACES FOR THE SAID ELECTION. The Board of Trustees of the City of Huntington Beach do ordain as Follows: Section 1. A General Municipal Election is hereby called to be held in the City of Huntington Beach, California, on the second Monday of April, 1910, for the purpose of electing five members of the Board of Trustees, A. Clerk, a Treasurer, and a Marshal, And for the purpose of voting upon any proposition that may be lawfully submitted to the Electors of said City at the time. Section 2. The said five Members of the Board of Trustees shall at their first, meeting, to be held on the Monday next succeeding the second Monday of April, 1910. so classify themselves by the lot as that three of their number shall go out of office at the expiration of two years, and two at the expiration of four years, Each holding office, however, until their successor is elected and qualified. The said Clerk, Treasurer and Marshal shall each hold office for the period of two years from and after the Monday next succeeding the day of such election, and until their successors are elected and qualified. Section 3. There shall be but one voting precinct in the said City, the boundaries of which shall be coincident with the boundaries of the City of Huntington Beach. Section 4. The following place for said Election is hereby fixed in and at and designated to be held in and at the City Hall of the City of Huntington Beach, California. Section 5. The officers of said Election, who shall be known as the Board of Election, are hereby appointed and declared to be as follows: Judges. L.W. Stearns and S.W. Price. Inspectors. Arthur Insley and J.W. Walker Ballot Clerks. C.E. Lavering and W.H. Warner Clerks. George O. Franklin and Geo W Wardwell. Four of the above electors being Democrats, and four being Republicans. ORD. 041 1 Section. 6. The members of the said Board of Election shall receive each the sum of$3.50 for their services as such member, and an addition of 1¢ for each vote counted. Section. 7. In all particulars not recited in this ordinance, the said election shall be in accordance with the charter of the City of Huntington Beach, and the Election Laws of the State of California. Section. 8. The Board of Trustees of the City of Huntington Beach shall canvas the return of the Board of Election, and determine any contest, and eight o'clock P.M. on the first Monday next succeeding the date of said Election. Section. 9. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Section, 10. The City Clerk shall Certify to the passage of this ordinance and cause the same to be published once in the "Huntington Beach News." A newspaper printed and published in the City of Huntington Beach, and thereupon and thereafter it shall take effect and be in full force. Bradbury, City Clerk and Ex-officio Clerk of the Board of Trustees of the City of Huntington Beach, hereby certify that the foregoing Ordinance of the City is a true and correct copy of an ordinance of the City of Huntington Beach, Numbered, "41," and entitled An ordinance calling and providing for the general Bi-Annual Election of the ORD. 041 2 City of Huntington Beach, California. for the year 1910, appointing and fixing the compensation of the members of the Board of Election, and Fixing the polling place for the said Election. And that the same was published in the Huntington Beach News a Newspaper printed and published in the City of Huntington Beach, according to law, on the 24th day of FEB. 1910. E.R. Bradbury.
