HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #70 ORDINANCE NO 70 AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE SPEED OF VEHICLES ON THE STREETS OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH. The Board of Trustees of the City of Huntington Beach do ordain as follows: Section I That it shall be unlawful for any person to ride or drive any horse or other animal, attached to a vehicle or otherwise, or to drive, propel any bicycle, tricycle, velocipede, motorcycle, automobile or other riding machine or horseless vehicle or any road vehicle whatsoever at a rate of speed greater than ten (10) miles per hour on or along any of the streets, portions of streets, lanes, alleys, avenues or other public place within the boundaries of the following described territory in the City of Huntington Beach, to wit: The territory bounded on the Southwest by the Southwest line of Ocean Avenue, on the Northwest by the Northwest line of Eleventh Street, on the Northeast and North by the Northeast line of Palm Avenue, and on the East by the East line of Railroad Avenue. Section II That it shall be unlawful for any person to ride or drive any horse or other animal attached to a vehicle or otherwise, or to drive or propel any bicycle, tricycle, velocipede, motorcycle, automobile or other riding machine, or horseless vehicle or any road vehicle whatsoever, at a rate of speed greater than twenty (20) miles per hour on any of the streets, portions of streets, lanes, alleys, avenues, or other public places in the City of Huntington Beach, outside of the district described in the section of this Ordinance. Section III Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not exceeding One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) or by imprisonment not exceeding thirty (30) days or by both such fine and imprisonment Section IV The Superintendent of Streets of the City of Huntington Beach is hereby directed to post such notices as are required by law at the intersections of main public highways of the City of Huntington Beach with the boundary line of such city and on every main highway of said City where the rate of speed changes Section V The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this Ordinance and cause the same to be published once in the Huntington Beach News, a weekly newspaper published and circulated in the said City of Huntington Beach, and thereupon and thereafter it shall take effect and be in full force.
