ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH AMENDING
ORDINANCE NO. 69 OF THE SAID CITY,' ENTITLED "AN ORDINACE
REGULATING THE CONSTRUCTION OF BUILDINGS CREATING FIRE
DISTRICTS, AND PROVIDING FOR THE PREVENTION OF FIRES AND
THE MAINTENANCE OF A FIRE DEPARTMENT IN THE CITY OF
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA."
The Board of Trustees of the City of Huntington Beach do ordain
as follows: _
Section 1. That Section 2 ,of Ordinance No. 68, entitled "An-Ordinance
regulating construction of buildings, creating fire districts, and provid-
ing for the prevention of fires and the maintenance of a .fire department
in the City of Huntington Beach, California" as amended by Ordinance No.
295 of the said City, be and the same is hereby amended so as to ,read
as follows:
"Section 2. All of the said City of Huntington Beach, not embraced

within the limits of- said Fire District No. 1 and of Fire District No. 3,
hereinafter described, shall be and is hereby declared to be .Fire District
No. 2 of said City of Huntington Beach; and all the following described
portion of the aid City of Huntington Beach shall be and is hereby de-
clared to be fire District: No. 3 of said City of Huntington Beach, to-wit :
Commencing at the point of intersection of the center line of the
first alley Northeasterly from Ocean Avenue with the center line of
First Street, running thence Northwesterly along said center line of
the first alley Northeasterly from Ocean Avenue to its intersection with
the center line of Second Street, running thence Southwesterly along said
last mentioned line to its intersection with the Northeasterly line of
Ocean Avenue, running thence Northwesterly along said last mentioned line i

/ to its intersection with the center line of Sixth Street, running thence
Southwesterly along the center line of Sixth Street, produced to its point j

of intersection with the mean average high tide line of the Pacific Ocean,
running thence Southeasterly along the said last mentioned line to the4

running thence Northeasterly along said last mentioned line to the point

of Trustees of the said City of.Huntington Beach, do hereby certify
that the foregoing ordinance No. -was introduced-and read
at the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the said City
held on the 22nd- day of 1926, and was again read to the said
Board 'of Trustees. at its" regular meeting held the
day of Nammabox, 1926, and was at said last meeting passed and

of beginning. All that portion of the City of Huntingtonz Beach included
in the above described boundaries is hereby declared to be Area "A" of
Fire District No. 1 , and all of Fire District No. 1 of said City of
Huntington Beach lying without said boundaries is hereby declared to
d
be Area "B" of said Fire District No. 1. '
except a building, the walls of which are constructed of brick, stone,
artificial. stone, terra cot. a, tile, or concrete and covered with fire
proof roofing. No building shall be erected, constructed or placed in
Fire District No. 3 of said City of Huntington Beach, unless the plans
and specifications therefor shall have first been presented to the
Board of Trustees ofsaid City with an application for permission to
place, erect or construct the same, and said application granted by
said. Board of Trustees and the Building Inspector instructed to issue
permit therefor; and the said Board shall have power ,to refuse to grant

sany such application, unless said plans and specifications shall com—
ply with the requirements of the said Board of Trustees with reference
to the style, material and manner of construction_ of said building; and
in granting such applications the said Board shall have due regard to
the safety of the public and. protection from danger of fire and faulty
or unsafe construction.
Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
with this Ordinance are hereby expressly repealed.
Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage ' of this
Ordinance, and. shall cause the same to be published once in HUYTIYGTON'
BEACH NEB, a weekly newspaper published and circulated in the said '
City of Huntington Beach.
An emergency has arisen which endangers the public peace, health, `
safety and property in that the extension of the oil industry and of the

drilling of oil wells in the thickly settled,,districts in the City of � V
Huntington Beach, require the removal of large dwellings and apartment
houses to new locations, and. that the same are of such size and co4struc—
Lion that they can not be moved along the public highways of said City to

points greatly distant from their present location without interferring
with traffic and destroying improvements in and upon and along the pub-
lic streets and interferrir_g with light, telephone and poorer service

District No. 1, suitable for locations for said buildings and structures,
THEREFORE,this ordinance shall take effect from and after the first .
publication thereof.
