THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH do or-
dain as follows:
Section 1. It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police,
upon receiving an affidavit from any person who has been bitten by a
dog or from any person who has witnessed such .occurrence, to notify

the owner, possessor, or custodian of such dog in writing , to keep

such dog, at all times, on the property or premises where such owner,
possessor, or custodian resides, or on the property or premises of any
person to whom the custody of such dog may be given, and to post a no-
tice conspicuously on such premises bearing the words "BEWARE OF DOG",
in letters at least one and one half inches high, or to securely hold
said dog or cause said dog to be securely held by a leash or other de-
vice or means, so as to prevent said dog from wandering, straying, or
getting beyond the control of its custodian.
Section 2. After the receipt by the owner, possessor, or
custodian of such dog, of the notice provided for in Section 1 hereof,
said owner, possessor, or custodian ahall, at all times thereafter,
keep such dog, or cause such dog to be kept on the property or prem-
ises where such owner, possessor, or custodian resides, or on the pro-
perty or premises where the person resides to whom the custody of such
dog has been given, and post a notice conspicuously on such premises,
bearing the words OBEYIARE OF DOG", in letters at least one and one half
inches high, or such owner, possessor, or custodian shall securely hold
said dog, or cause said dog to be securely held by a_]eash or other de-
vice or means, to prevent said dog from wandering, straying or getting
beyond the control of said owner,�i possessor or custodian.

Section 3. Any person violating any of the provisions of
this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction
thereof, shall be punished by a fine not exceeding One Hundred Dollars
(0100.00), or by imprisonment in the County Jail of Orange County, not
exceeding thirty (30) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment, and
in the event of a failure to pay any fine so levied, the same may be
collected by imprisonment in the County Jail at the rate of one (1)
day fir each dollar of the fine.
Secti6a.A. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of
this ordinance, and cause the same to be published by one insertion
in The Huntington Beach News, a weekly newspaper printed, published and
circulated in the City of Huntington Beach, and Thirty (30) days there-
after, it shall take effect and be in force.
