G AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 226 AND ADDING A NEW SECTION TO SAID ORDINANCE NO. 226 ENTITLED, "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH TO BE KNOWN AS THE BUILDING ORDINANCE, REGULATING THE CONSTRUCTION, ALTERATION, REPAIR AND. DEMOLITION OF BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES AND PARTS. THEREOF AND. PROVIDING FOR FIRE PROTECTION; REGULATING AREAWAYS i AND MATERIALS AND MACHINERY, AND USE OF STREETS IN CONNECTION WITH BUILDING OR WRECKING OPERATIONS, { PROVIDING FOR PERMITS FOR SAME, AND REPEALING ALL 4 ORDINANCES ITT CONFLICT THEREWITH" AS AMENDED. ,j The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach do ordain as follows: l _ Section 1. That a new section be and the same is hereby added to Ordinance No. 226 entitled, "An Ordinance of i the City of Huntington Beach to be known as the Building Ordinance, regulating the construction, alteration, repair and demolition of buildings and structures and parts thereof and providing for fire protection; regulating area ways and materials and machinery, and use of streets in connection with building or wrecking operations, providing for permits for same, and repealing all Ordinances in Conflict Therewith"- which new section shall be known as Section 191 and shall read as follows: "Section 194-. WALLS TO BE RAZED All masonry walls or parts of walls which are shat- tered or in which the bond between the mortar and the brick is ruptured shall be taken down to a point where the wall is tight and well bonded. BOND IN MASONRY All brick work shall be laid with full header courses bonded through walls not more than every fourth. course in f 1 I •i he ight. -� VENEER AND FACING All masonry veneer and facing shall be fully bonded as herein provided except that masonry veneer or facing may be applied in front of steel or reinforced concrete members or walls when tied or anchored thereto in accordance with written instructions from the building inspector. VENEER ON WOOD FRAME In veneering on wood frame construction the veneer shall i be tied to the studding by 40d. large headed galvanized nails driven to a two inch penetration not more than twelve (12) inches on center vertically, nor more than sixteen (16) inches on center horizontally. Corrugated clips and other forms of ties are prohibited unless approved by the building inspector. USED OR SECOND-HAND MASONRY VNITS No used or second-hand masonry units shall be used unless they are sound and at least ninety (90) percent whole, and have been thoroughly cleaned of all adhering mortar. CONNECTING NEW AND OLD MASONRY All bonding surfaces of old or existing masonry to which new masonry is to be added shall be thoroughly cleaned of all old mortar and the surfaces thoroughly wetted at time new work i is built. All new masonry shall be definitely tied into old or ex- of isting masonry by means reinforced concrete, steel or other means which will be adequate, in the opinion of the building inspector, i to meet the special condition. LINTELS OVER OPENINGS _ Lintels over openings more than four (4) feet in width which are of structural steel shall be encased over top and sides with concrete. 'Where the ends of lintels are less than � eighteen (18) inches apart they shall be effectively tied together. �~ Sect-ion 2. All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances of the City of Huntington Beach not consistent with the provisions of this Ordinance insofar as the same are inconsistent here- with are to that extent hereby repealed. Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach News, a newspaper printed, published and circulated weekly in said City of Huntington Beach. An emergency has arisen which endangers the peace, health and safety of citizens of the City of Huntington Beach, and the facts constituting such emergency are as follows: That a large number of buildings within said City which were damaged by the earthquake are now being repaired, and unless said buildings are repaired as herein provided the same become and are a menace to public peace, health and safety. Adop- tion of this Ordinance is necessary for the protection of said public peace, health and safety, therefore this Ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage. - a Passed and adopted this day of 6_k , 1933 MAYOR -ATTEST.
