ORDINANCE NO. 403
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON
BEACH DECLARING THAT THE OFFICE OF CHIEF
OF POLICE SHALL BE ELECTIVE.
The People of 'the City of Huntington Beach do ordain as
follows;
Section It That the office of Chief of Police of the City of
Huntington Beach shall hereafter be elective and said officer shall
be elected from the City at large for the term provided in Section
17 of Article VII of the Charter of the City of Huntington Beach. The
City Council shall set the compensation of said officer at not less
than the amount paid said officer during the tpreeedg. 'year.
Section 2; If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held to be unconstitutional,
such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions
of this ordinance. The People of the City of Huntington Beach hereby
declare they would have passed this ordinance and each section, sub-
section, sentence, clause and -phrase hereof irrespective of the fact
t hat .any one or more sections, subsections, sentences, clauses or
phrases hereof be declared unconstitutional.
Section 3; The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
ordinance and shall cause the same to be published by one insertion in
the Huntington Beach News, a weekly newspaper printed, published and
circulated in said City of Huntington Beach, and this ordinance shall
take effect and be in force in accordance with-the statutes applicable
thereto, and said officer shall be elected at a special election held
within the time provided for by law.
Passed and adopted on the 3rd day of August, 1937.
