ORDINANCE NO. I�&
AN ORDINANCE OF- THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING
ORDINANCE NO. 216 OF SAID CITY, ENTITLED:
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH,
ESTABLISHING A POLICE DEPARTMENT THEREIN AND
DEFINING THE DUTIES AND AUTHORITY THEREOF" , j
AS AMENDED.

The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach,
California, do ordain as follows:
Section 1: That Section 1 of said Ordinance No. 216,
entitled: "An Ordinance of the City .of Huntington Beach,
Establishing a Police Department Therein and Defining the
Duties and Authority Thereof" , as amended, is hereby amended
so as to read as follows:
"Section 1: A Police Department is hereby established
in the City of Huntington Beach, California, to -be composed of
the following: A Chief of Police, five (5) patrolmen; two (2)
motor officers, and one (1) police clerk, and one (1) police
matron for temporary service when needed; provided, however,
that the Chief of Police shall be allowed one (1) relief patrol-
man for service during vacations and emergencies, two (2)
=� crossing guards for service for not to exceed four (4) months
per year; and provided, further, that the Chief of Police
may appoint not to exceed ten (10) special officers on holidays,
for celebrations and for emergencies or major disasters , subject

to the approval of the City Council. "
Section 2: That Section 2 of said Ordinance No. 216
is hereby repealed.
Section 3: That Section 3 of Ordinance No. 216 is
hereby amended so as to read as follows:

"Section 3: That the salary schedule of the Police
Department shall be as follows:
MONTHLY SALARY SCHEDULE
Third Year and
First Year Second Year Thereafter
Police Chief - $220.00 per month
Patrolmen $135.00 $145.00 $p160.00 per month
Motor Officers $150.00 $160.00 4175.00 per month
Police Clerk $125.00 $135.00 $$140.00 per month

Relief Patrolman $135.00 $145.00
Police Matron $ 2.50 per call, provided same does not exceed
five (5) hours, and fifty (50¢) cents per hour
thereafter.
Crossing wards '$125.00 per month
Special Officers Not less than $5.00 nor more than $6.00 per day;
provided, that in the event special officers are employed
for a period- less than one day they shall be paid not to
exceed seventy-five (75¢) cents per hour.
All salaries herein mentioned shall be paid semi-.
monthly.
Those eligible, to advancement to the next higher classi-
fication shall be promoted only upon recommendation of the Chief

of Police and thereafter shall receive the salary provided for said
classification. "

Section 4: If any section, subsection, sentence,
clause or phrase of this Ordinance is, for any reason, held to
be invalid or unconstitutional, such decision shall not affect

the validity of the remaining portions of this Ordinance. The
City Council of the City of Huntington Beach hereby declares that .

it would have passed this Ordinance and each section, subsection, -
sentence, clause or phrase thereof, irrespective of the fact that__
any one or more other sections, subsections, sentences, clauses
or phrases be declared invalid or unconstitutional.

Section 5: The City Clerk. shall certify to the
passage of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published
by one insertion in the Huntington Beach News, a weekly newspaper
printed, published and circulated in the City of Huntington Beach,
and thirty (30) days after its passage and adoption this Ordinance shall
be in force and effedt.

of the City Council of said City, do hereby certify that the whole
number of members of the City Council of the City of Huntington
Beach is five; that the foregoing Ordinance was first read to said
City Council at a regularly adjourned meeting thereof held on the I
18th day of July, 1938, and was again read to said City Council at
a regular ._meeting thereof held on the
day of August, 1938, and was passed and adopted by the affirmative
vote of more than a majority of all the members of said City
Council as follows:
