AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA, CREATING A FIRE DEPARTMENT AND ESTABLISH- ING THE SALARY OF THE EMPLOYEES THEREOF. The CityCouncil of the City of Huntin ton Y g i Beach, California, do ordain as follows: Section 1: That the Fire Department of the City of Huntington Beach shall consist of a Fire Chief, One mechanic , and not to exceed six ( 6) engineers; provided that a lesser number of engineers may be appointed as may be determined by the City Council. The Fire Chief shall be appointed by the City Council and shall hold office at its pleasure. L— The Fire Chief shall appoint all other officers and employees of the Fire Department, subject to the approval of the City Council. Section 2: The salary of the Fire Chief shall be 210.00 per month, payable semi-monthly. Section 3: The salary of the mechanic sh al l be $160.00 per month, payable semi-monthly. Section 4: The salary of the engineers in the Fire Department shall be based upon the following schedule: L v i �a2r j 1 r First year of service in the Fire Department, One Hundred Thirty-five ($135.00) Dollars per month, payable semi-monthly. Second year of service in the Fire Department , i One Hundred Forty-five ($145.00) Dollars per month, payable semi-monthly. Third year of service in the Fire Department, One Hundred -Fifty-five ( $155.00) Dollars Der month, payable semi-monthly. Fourth year of service in the Fire Department, One Hundred Sixty ($160.00) Dollars per month, payable semi-monthly and, thereafter, the sum of One Hundred Sixty ($160.00) Dollars per month, which said salaries shall be paid semi-monthly. Those eligible to advancement to the next higher classification shall be promoted only upon recommendation of the Fire Chief and thereafter shall receive the salary provided for said classification. Section 5: All ordinances or parts of ordin- ances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. J Section 6: If any section, subsection, sen- tence, clause or phrase of this Ordinance for any reason is held to be unconstitutional, such decision shall not affect the remaining portion of this Ordinance. The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, California, hereby declares that it would have passed this Ordinance and each -2- ^O �a2y i and every section, subsection, sentence , clause or phrase thereof, irrespective of the fact that any,-.one or more sections, subsections, sentences, clauses or phrases be a declared unconstitutional. Section 7: The City Clerk shall certify to the I o this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be passage published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach News, a weekly newspaper Printed, published and circulated in the City of Huntington Beach, and thirty (30) days after its passage and adoption this Ordinance shall be in force and effect, PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, California, at a regular'_ ., meeting thereof held on the day of July, 1939. iAYO R ATTEST: City Clerk.
