ORDINANCE NO. 431+ ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE FIXING AND REGULATING THE COMPENSATION OF-CITY OFFICERS, DEPUTIES, ASSISTANTS AND..EMPLOYEES OF THE .CITY. OF HUNTINGTON BEACH." _ The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach, California, does ordain as follows: Section 1: ,That a new section shall be added to Ordinance No. 434 entitled "An Ordinance Fixing and Regulating the Compensation of City Officers, Deputies, Assistants and Employees of the City of Huntington Beach" the same to be known as Section 5 (a) , and to read as follows: Section 5 (a) : Every officer and regular employee of the City who _has been such an. officer. or employee for at least six full months, who is compelled to be absent from duty on accoimnt of injuries or' illness, shall receive his salary or wages during such absence for a cumulative period not to exceed seven (7) days in any one calendar year. In addition to the foregoing, any such officer or employee who in any calendar year shall be so absent for less than the seven-day period may carry over into the following year or years the portion of said period remaining and so accumulate such unused portion to a total period not exceeding thirty-five (35) days, from which total any such absence from time to time shall be. deducted. The compensation (� 1 orao 562 herein provided to be paid during absence on account of sickness or injury shall not be paid after the third day unless the officer or employee shall file with the City Clerk a certificate from a physician or surgeon setting forth the fact of such sickness or injury. There shall be deducted from the compensa- tion herein provided to be paid during absence on account of sickness or injury, the amount of any sums received by such officer or employee by way of industrial compensation. Section' 2: That a new section shall be added to Ordinance No. 434 entitled "An Ordinance Fixing and Regulating the Compensation of City Officers, Deputies, Assistants and Employees of the City of Huntington Beach," the same to be known as Section 5 (b) , and to read as follows: Section 5 (b) : The City Council may grant a leave of absence, without pay, for a period not to exceed one year, to any regular female employee of 1 the City whose absence shall be due to pregnancy, provided however, that prior to the time said leave is to take effect said female employee shall, in writing, request said leave and give notice to the department head and the City Council, of her intention to resume her duties at the end of said leave. 1 1 (2) Ord® 562 Section 3: That all Ordinances .or parts of Ordinances which are in conflict with. this .Ordinance, are hereby repealed in so far 'as they .conflict with this Ordinance. Section 4: The .City_Clerk..shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach News, a weekly newspaper printed, published and circulated in the City of Huntington Beach, California; and thirty (30) days after the adoption hereof., the. same shall take effect and be in force.
