ORDINANCE NO. 582
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON
BEACH AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 496 ENTITLED
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON
BEACH, CALIFORNIA , REGULATING ITS TRAFFIC AND
REGULATING THE USE OF PUBLIC STREETS IN THE
CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA, DEFINING
AND ESTABLISHING A PARKING METER ZONE AND REG-
ULATING AND CONTROLLING AND PROVIDING FOR IN-
SPECTION OF THE TIME PARKING OF VEHICLES
THEREIN BY THE USE OF PARKING METERS;
PRESCRIBING LIMITS OF TIME FOR PARKING IN
PARKING METER ZONE; AND PROVIDING FOR EN-
FORCEMENT OF THIS ORDINANCE AND PUNISHMENT
FOR ITS VIOLATION."
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach
ordains as follows:
Section 1: That Section 3 of Ordinance No. 496 be
repealed and a new section substituted therefor, the same to
read as follows;
"Section 3: INSTALLATION OF PARKING METERS . The
Superintendent of Streets , when' directed by the City Council,
shall cause to be installed upon such streets or portions
thereof within the parking meter zone , adjacent to each des-
ignated parking space , such parking meters as shall have been
approved by the City Council."
Section 2: That Section 4 of Ordinance No. 496 be
repealed and a new section substituted therefor, the same to
read as follows:
"Section 4: METERS. Each parking meter shall be
so designated that the deposit of a coin or coins will set
the mechanism of the meter in motion or permit the said

mechanism to be set in motion so that the meter will show
the unexpired parking time applicable to the parking space
adjacent to the meter, and said meter, when said parking
time has expired, shall so indicate by a visible sign."
Section 3s That Section 6 of Ordinance No. 496 be
repealed and four new sections substituted therefor, said new
sections to be designated Sections6, 6.19 6.2, and 6.3, the
same to read as follows:
"Section 6: COUNCIL TO PRESCRIBE METER OPERATION.
The parking time allowed following deposit of such coins as
provided in this ordinance , the hours during which such de-
posits are required, and the directions which shall appear
on the parking meters , shall be such as may be prescribed by
the City Council, by resolution.
"Section 6.1: DEPOSIT OF COINS. No person shall
park any vehicle in any parking space , except as otherwise
permitted by this ordinance, without immediately depositing
in the parking meter adjacent to said space such lawful
coin or coins of the United States as are required by such
i meter and designated by directions on the meter, and when
required by directions on the meter, setting in operation
the timing mechanism thereof, in accordance with said direc-
tions , unless said parking meter indicates at the time such
vehicle is parked that an unexpired portion remains of the
period for which a coin or coins has been previously de-
posited.
. "Section 6,2s LEGAL TIME LIMITED. No person,
except as otherwise provided in this ordinance , shall permit

any vehicle registered in his -name or operated or controlled
by him, to remain parked in any parking space during any
time when the parking meter adjacent to said space indicates
that no portion remains of the period for which the last
previous coin or coins has been deposited, or beyond the
time limit for parking in such space by virtue of the pro-
visions of any other ordinance.
"Section 6.3: EXCEPTION• A vehicle may be parked
and remain parked in a parking meter space without the de-
posit of any coin in the parking meter adjacent thereto
during hours other than those designated by resolution of
the City Council as hours during which such deposits are
required,"
Section 4: The City Clerk shall certify to the
passage and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the
same to be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach
News , a weekly newspaper printed, published and circulated in
the City of Huntington Beach, California ; and thirty days
after the adoption thereof the same shall take effect and be
in force .

ex-officio Clerk of the City Council of said City, do hereby
certify that the whole number of members of the City Council
of the City of Huntington Beach is five; that the foregoing
ordinance was first read to said City Council at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 3rd day of March 9 19529
and was again read to said City Council at a regular meeting
thereof held on the loth day of March - , 19 52, and was
passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of more than a
majority of all the members of said City Council, as follows:
