AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON
BEACH RELATING TO PARKING METERS AMENDING
SECTIONS 6500.1, 6511, 6512, 65137 6521,
65237 6541.21 6541.37 6554; REPEALING
SECTIONS 6514, 6 515 6516 6517 6541.4;
ADDING SECTIONS 652�.41 and 652L42 TO THE
HUNTINGTON BEACH ORDINANCE CODE.
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach,
California, do ordain as follows:
Section 1: That Section 6500.1 of the Huntington Beach
Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 6500.1 "Parking meter zone" means that certain
area hereinafter described, within this City and established
by the Council as. a zone within which the parking of vehicles
upon .streets or city-owned or city-leased land shall be con-
trolled, regulated and inspected with the aid of timing de-
vices and meters, herein referred to as "parking meters" or
"meters" .
Section 2: That Section 6511 of the Huntington Beach
Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 6511. Parking Meter Zone Established: Effect.
The following area within this City is hereby established as
the Parking Meter Zone; and the parking of vehicles upon the
streets or city owned or leased land within said zone, is here-
by declared to be subject to. the provisions of this Chapter.
Section 3 : That Section 6512 of the Huntington Beach
Ordinance Code is' he reby amended to read as follows:
Section 6512. Boundary of Meter Zone. That certain are&
within the City of Huntington Beach described as follows:
Beginning at the point of intersection of the
northwesterly property line of Fifth Street and the
northeasterly property line of Ocean Avenue; thence
northwesterly along the northeasterly property line
of said Ocean Avenue to the northwesterly property
line of Ninth Street; thence southwesterly along.
the southwesterly prolongation of the northwesterly
property line of Ninth Street to the line of ordinary
high tide of the Pacific Ocean; thence southeasterly
along the said line of ordinary high tide to the
southwesterly prolongation of the northwesterly
property line' of- "A" Street; thence northeasterly
along the northwesterly property line of "A" Street
to the northeasterly property line of Ocean Avenue;
thence northwesterly along the northeasterly property
line of Ocean Avenue to the southeasterly property
line of Third Street; thence northeasterly along the
southeasterly property line of Third Street to the
northeasterly .property line of Olive Avenue; thence
northwesterly along the northeasterly property line
of Olive Avenue to the southeasterly property line of
Plain Street; thence northeasterly along the south-
easterly property line of Main Street to the south-
westerly property line of Orange Avenue; thence
northwesterly along the southwesterly property line
of Orange Avenue to the northwesterly property line
of Main Street; thence southwesterly along the
northwesterly property line of Main Street to the
northeasterly property line of Olive Avenue; thence
northwesterly along the northeasterly property line
of Olive Avenue to the northwesterly property line of
Fifth Street; thence southwesterly along the north-
westerly property line of Fifth Street to the point
of beginning.
r Section 4: That 'Section 6513 of the Huntington Beach
Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 6513. State Highways. IThe provisions of Chap-
ter 65 of the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code shall be in-
effective as to any portion of a state highway within the
boundary of the Parking Meter Zone as set forth in Section
6512 six months after receipt of. notification from. the
Department of Public Works , Division of Highways of the State

of California of their rescinding their approval to this
Ordinance No. 609 . ,
Section 5: That. Section `6521 of the Huntington Beach
Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 6521. Installation of Parking Meters. The
Superintendent of Streets , when directed by the Council, shall

cause to be installed upon such streets or portions thereof
or city owned or leased land within the parking meter zone ,
adjacent to each designated parking space, such parking meters
as shall have been approved by the Council.
Section 6: That Section 6523 of the Huntington Beach
Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows
Section 6523. Spaces for Parking. The Superintendent of
Streets shall have lines or markings painted upon the curbs,
streets or area adjacent to each parking meter, designating
the parking space for which said meter is to be used.
Section 7: That Section 6541.2 of the Huntington Beach
Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 6541.2 Affixing of `Notice to Vehicle. He shall
attach to such vehicle a notice stating that it has been
parked in violation of this Chapter, and instructing the - owner
or operator to report to the judge of a court of competent
jurisdiction in regard to such violation.
Section 8: That Section 6541.3 of the Huntington Beach
' Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 6541.3 Payment. The owner or operator may,
within twenty-four (24) hours after the time when such
notice was attached to such vehicle , pay to the judge of a
court of competent jurisdiction, or his duly authorized
deputy, in full satisfaction of such violation, the sum of
One Dollar ($1.00) .
Section 9: That Section 6 554 of the Huntington Beach
Ordinance Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 6554. Use of Proceeds. The amount of the coins
required to be deposited in parking meters as provided here-
in., is hereby levied and assessed as a fee to provide for the
proper regulation, control and inspection of traffic upon the
public streets , and to cover the cost of 'supervising, regula-
ting, and inspecting the parking of vehicles in the .parking
meter zone provided for herein, the cost of placing and
maintaining lines or marking, designating parking spaces in
parking meter zone, and the cost of the purchase, supervision,
protection, inspection, installation, operation, maintenance ,
control and use of the parking meters installed hereunder,
and the acquisition by purchase or lease , improvement, opera-
tion, maintenance , repair and replacement of all parking

facilities on streets and city owned or leased property;
and the special fund in which such fees shall be placed shall
be devoted exclusively to those purposes.
Section 10: That Sections 6514, 65157 65167 6517 and
6541.4 of the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code are hereby
repealed.

Section 11: That a new .section is hereby added to the
Huntington Beach Ordinance Code , designated Section 6526.41,
to read as follows:
Section 6526.41 12-Hour Meter: Twelve-hour meter to
show legal parking during the period of four hours upon and
after the deposit therein of one United States twenty-five
cent coin, thereafter said meter to show legal parking during
a period of one additional hour for each United States five-
cent coin deposited therein, or an additional five hours for
each United States twenty-five cent coin deposited therein.
Section 12: That a new section is hereby added to the
Huntington Beach Ordinance Code , designated Section 6 526.42,
to read as follows:
Section 6526.42 12-Hour Meter on Streets Prohibited.
No twelve-hour meter shall be installed to regulate parking
upon any street or highway within the parking meter zone.
Section 13: The City Clerk shall certify to the
passage and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the
same to be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach
News , a weekly newspaper printed, published and circulated in
the City of Huntington Beach, Orange County, California, and
thirty (30) days after the adoption thereof the same shall
take effect and be in force.
