AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON
BEACH DECLARING AN EMERGENCY TO EXIST;AND
AMENDING THE HUNTINGTON BEACH ORDINANCE
CODE BY AMENDING ,SECTIONS 7572, 7572.23
and 7572.24.
WHEREAS, Huntington Harbour is a new .development
in the City of Huntington Beach and will contain -many chan-
nels and bridges which will be attractive to both minors
and adults for swimming and diving purposes; and
WHEREAS, at the present time children and- adults
are swimming in the channel and jumping off an existing
bridge; and
WHEREAS, in order to protect the public safety, the
adoption of this ordinance as an urgency measure is necessary
for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health,
safety and welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of and by the
above preamble and statement, the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach declares and defines that an emergency
exists necessitating the following ordinance for the immed-
iate protection and preservation of the public health and
safety;
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach
does ordain as follows:

Section 1. That the following sections of the
Huntington Beach Ordinance Code' are hereby amended, and
as amended, shall read in words and figures, as follows:
Section 7572 Unlawful Acts; It shall be unlawful
for any person to do or to commit, or for any person to
cause or permit to be done or committed, within the bounda-
ries of any beach, pier, bridge, waterway, harbor or dis-
trict within the city limits of the City of Huntington Beach,
owned, operated, controlled or formed by the City Council
of the City of Huntington Beach,_ any of the following
Section 7512-21, Jumpiniz From Municipal Piers and
Public Bridges. To dive, jump or enter into the water from
the municipal pier or any bridge, or any part thereof ; pro-
vided, however, that this section does not apply to the regu-
larly employed lifeguard personnel of the City of Huntington
Beach who are engaged in lifeguard training or in emergency
jumps from the pier or bridges in order to save lives and
property.
Section 7572.24. Climbing on Hails of Municipal Pier
and Public Bridges. To sit, walk or balance on the rails
of the municipal pier and public bridges or to climb over or
under such rails.
Section 2. This ordinance, being an emergency
measure, for the immediate preservation of the public health,

and safety, which emergency is set forth and defined in
the preamble thereto, shall take effect and be in force
from and after the passage and adoption thereof.
Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the
passage and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause
the same to be published by one insertion in the Huntington
Beach News, a weekly newspaper, printed, published and cir-
culated in the City of Huntington Beach, California,
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City
of Huntington Beach, California, this 18th day of
