AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON
BEACH AMENDING THE HUNTINGTON BEACH OR-
DINANCE CODE BY AMENDING SECTION 8111.1.
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does
ordain las follows:
Section 1. That Section 8111.1 of the Huntington Beach
Ordinance Code is hereby amended, and as .amended, shall read
in words and figures as follows:
Section 8111.1. Concrete Floors. Minimum Slab Thick-
ness, Structural and Mix Designs
(a) Except where otherwise permitted in this section
concrete slab-on-ground shall be nominal 4 inches-
or. more, in thickness with snot -,lass than 3-5/8
inches (actual) at any point"and for all habitable
spaces the following shall be the minimum require-
ments - separation from earth with approved vapor
barrier (polyethelene minimum .006 or; ecual mils )
and reinforced with minimum 6" x 6" - #10 x ##10
welded wire fabric.
(b) Structural slabs shall be of design thickness,but .
not less--than 4 inches.
(c) Where slabs-in-ground- are placed in:, two operations
(double slabs) minimum thickness of upper' slab,' 3
Inches; lower slab, 2 inches. (.893.2)
(d) Proportions of cement, fine and coarse aggregate
and mixing water shall be selected to produce cones
crete of the required durability, workability and
strength. Proportions shall follow-the ,recommenda-
tions of the American Concrete Institute (ACI 613)-
The mixture shall be such that the concrete will
work readily into corners and angles of forms and
around reinforcement without segregation of materials
or.,,accumulation of excess free water on the-- surface.

(e) Concrete shall contain not less than 5 sacks of
cement per cubic yard.
(f) Quantity of mixing water shall not exceed 7-1a
gallons per sack of cement, including the free
water contained in the aggregate.
(g) S1umU.
(1) Maximum Slump shall not exceed 4 inches for
normal weight concrete. or 3 inches for lightweight
concrete except that a slump not to exceed 6 inches
may be permitted provided segregation of aggregate
particles does not occur.
(2) Standard test ASTM C-143 shall be used to
measure slump.
(3) Concrete shall have a compressive strength,
at 28 days, of at least the required design strength
but not less than 2000 psi.
(e) A copy of the Bill of Lading for all such
materials must be made available to the Huntington
Beach Building Department Inspectors upon request.
Section 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the
passage and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the
same to be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach
News, a weekly newspaper, printed, published, and circulated
In the City of Huntington Beach, California, and thirty (30)
days after the adoption thereof, the same shall take effect
and be in force.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach, California, this 18th day of November
1963.

majority of all the members of said City Council.
