AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON
BEACH RELATING TO USE PERMITS; AMENDING
THE HUNTINGTON BEACH ORDINANCE CODE BY
AMENDING, ADDING AND REPEALING SECTIONS
THEREOF.
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does
ordain as follows :
Section 1. That the following sections of the Hunting-
ton Beach Ordinance Code are hereby amended, and as amended,
shall read in words and figures as follows :
Section 2526. Effect of Setback Ordinance. From
and after the taking effect of an ordinance estab-
lishing any setback line or lines, or amendment
of any such setback line or lines, it shall be un-
lawful for any person, -firm or corporation to con-
struct any building, wall, fence or hedge over 32
feet in height or store or display merchandise
within the space between the street line and the
setback line, or lines, so established, except that
a marquee or canopy which is attached to a building,
which building complies with the setback line or
lines, or detached canopies for an automobile ser-
vice station may project into the setback area
upon condition that such marquee or canopy is not
more than 18 inches in thickness and shall have a
ground clearance of not less than 12 feet above
the centerline grade of the adjacent streets. Per- +
mitted signs which are located within the setback
areas of commercial or industrial use shall have a
ground clearance of .at least 10 feet unless the top
of such sign is not more than 32 feet above the ad-
joining grade.
Section 9412. Uses Permitted. R-1, R-2, R-3 Uses.
Any uses permitted in the R-1, R-2, and R-3 Districts
except hospitals, convalescent hospitals, sanitariums
or rest homes but under the provisions of Article 940.

Section 2414. 5. Garages
Grocery and Fruit Stores
Hardware and Appliance Stores
Hospitals, subject to approval of
a Use Permit, but not including
animal hospitals nor hospitals
for mental or contagious dis-
eases or drug or liquor addicts.
Hotels
Section 9442. Uses Permitted. General manufactur-
ing industrial uses, commercial uses and buildings
and structures designed and intended for such uses,
which are permitted in the M-1, M-1-A, and C-2
districts and shall be under the respective provis-
ions of the appropriate district, but not includ-
ing:
(a) Hotels, motels or trailer parks
(b) Hospitals, rest homes or sanitariums
(c) Churches, clubs or lodges
(d) Residential use
Section 2480. 2. Service Establishments. b. The
following services with indicated parking and yard
requirements.
1. Automobile service stations (no major
repairs, metal work or painting; only new
unused merchandise may be stored outside
the main building) .
2. Banks
3. Barber and beauty shops
4. Dressmaker or millinery shops
5. Laundry or cleaning agencies, hand
laundries, and self service laundries
6. Hospitals, sanitariums or rest homes
provided a Use Permit is first approved.
Section 2. That the following sections are hereby
added to the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code and shall read
in words and figures as follows :

Section U91. 23. Multiple Family Dwelling Units.
Permitted in this District, except that two units
or less are not permitted.
Lot Area Per Apartment Units.
There shall be at least 750 square feet of lot
area for each apartment for each single dwelling
units.
Parking Requirements. (10 feet x 20 feet) .
Minimum Area. 7,000 square feet.
Minimum Frontage. 70 feet (807.2)
Section 233L. 24. Public and Quasi Public Uses.
Churches, lodges, fraternity houses, private or
public educational institutions, rooming houses,
boarding houses and rest homes.
Parking Re uirements. (10 feet x 20 feet)
One parking space for each six seats in churches
or places of public assembly.
One space for each dwelling or sleeping unit
where applicable.
Minimum Area. 6,000 square feet.
Minimum Frontage 60 feet.
Section 3. That Sections '9391.12 and 9391.13 of the
Huntington Beach Ordinance Code are hereby repealed.
Section 4 , The City Clerk shall certify to the pass-
age and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the same
to be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach News
a weekly newspaper, printed, published and circulated in the
City of Huntington Beach, California, and thirty (30) days
after the adoption hereof the same shall take effect and be'
in force.

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City
of Huntington Beach, California, this 6th day of
May 1963.

I, PAUL C. JONES, the duly elected, qualified and
acting City Clerk of the City of Huntington Beach and ex-
officio Clerk of the City Council of the said City, do here-
by certify that the whole number of members of the City
Council of the City of Huntington Beach is five; that the
foregoing ordinance was read to said City Council at a regu-
lar meeting thereof held on the 15th day of April ,
1963, and was again read to said City Council at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 6th day of May ,
1963, and was passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of
more than a majority of all the members of said City
Council.
