AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON
BEACH AMENDING THE HUNTINGTON BEACH OR-
DINANCE CODE BY ADDING SECTIONS THERETO
PERTAINING TO PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS
ON CERTAIN STREETS,OR PORTIONS OF STREETS,
IN- HUNTINGTON BEACH.
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach,
California., does ordain as follows:
Section 14 That the following sections are hereby
added to the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code to read In words
and figures, as follows:
Section 6172 .4. Speed Limit on Goldenwest Street
between Mansion Avenue /and Ellis Avenue. The City Council
does hereby find and determine upon the basis of an engineer-
Ing and traffic survey conducted by the Orange County Traffic
Committee, that the prima facie speed limit of 65 miles per
hour is more than is -reasonable or safe. Therefore, the City.
Council does hereby determine and declare the prima facie
speed limit, of 40 miles per hour as the most appropriate speed
to facilitate the orderly movement of traffic and is reasonable
and safe.
Section 6172.5. Speed Limit on Goldenwest Street
between Ellis Avenue and Warner Avenue. The City Council does
hereby find and determine upon the basis of an engineering
and traffic survey conducted by the Orange County Traffic

Committee, that the prima facie speed limit of 65 miles per
hour is more than is reasonable or safe. Therefore, the City
Council does hereby determine and declare the prima facie
speed limit of 50 miles per hour as the most appropriate speed
to facilitate the orderly movement of traffic and is reasonable
and safe.
Section 6172.6. Speed Limit. Goldenwest Street be-
tween Warner Avenue and McFadden :Ave:.. The City Council does
hereby find and determine upon the basis of an engineering
and traffic survey conducted by the Orange County Traffic
Committee, that the prima facie speed limit of 65 miles per ,
hour is more than is reasonable or safe. Therefore, the City
Council does hereby determine and declare the prima facie speed
limit of 55 miles per hour as the most appropriate speed to
facilitate the orderly movement of traffic and is reasonable
and safe.
Section 6172.7. Speed Limit. Brookhurst Street be-
tween Adams Avenue and Garfield Avenues The City Council does

that the prima facie speed limit of 65 miles per hour is more
than is reasonable or safe. Therefore, the City Council does
hereby determine and declare the prima facie speed limit of
55 miles per hour as the most appropriate speed to facilitate
the orderly movement of traffic and is reasonable and safe.

Section 6172.8. Edinger Avenue between Bolsa Chica
Avenue and Springdale Street. The City Council does hereby
find and determine upon the basis of an engineering and traf-
fic survey conducted by the Orange County Traffic Committee
that the prima facie speed limit of 65 miles per hour is
more than is reasonable or safe. Therefore, the City Council
does hereby determine and declare the prima facie speed lim-
it of 40 miles per hour as the most appropriate speed to
facilitate the orderly movement of traffic and is reasonable
and safe.
Section 6172.9. Edinger Avenue between Springdale
Street and Beach Boulevard. The City Council does hereby
find and determine upon the basis of an engineering and traffic
survey conducted by the Orange County Traffic Committee that
the prima facie speed limit of 65 miles per hour is more than

hereby determine and declare the prima facie speed limit of
, 45 miles per hour as the most appropriate speed to facilitate

Section 6173. Warner Avenue between Coast Highway
(101a) and Edwards Street. The City Council does- hereby
find and determine upon the basis of an engineering and
. traffic survey conducted by the Orange County Traffic Committ-
ee that the prima facie speed limit of 65 miles per hour is
more than is reasonable- or safe. Therefore, the City Council
does hereby determine and declare the prima facie speed limit

of 50 miles per hour as the most appropriate speed to fac-
ilitate the orderly movement of traffic and is reasonable
and safe.
Section 6173.1. Warner Avenue between Edwards Street
and Cannery Street. The City Council does hereby find and
determine upon the basis of an engineering and traffic survey
conducted by the Orange County Traffic Committee that the
prima facie speed limit of 65 miles per hour is more than is
reasonable or safe. Therefore, the City Council does hereby
determine and declare the prima facie speed limit of 45
miles per hour as the most appropriate speed to facilitate
the orderly movement - of traffic and is reasonable and safe.
Section 6173.2, Main Street between Clay Street and
Beach Boulevard. The City Council does hereby find and deter-
mine upon the basis of an engineering and traffic survey con-
ducted by the Orange County Traffic Committee that the prima
facie speed limit of 65 miles per hour is more than is reason-
able or safe. Therefore, the City Council does hereby deter-
mine and declare the prima facie speed limit of 40 .miles per
hour as the most appropriate speed to facilitate the orderly
movement of traffic and is reasonable and safe.
Section 6173.3• Talbert Street between Goldenwest
Street and Newland Street. The City Council does hereby
find and determine upon the basis of an engineering and traf-
fic survey conducted by the Orange County Traffic Committee
that the prima facie speed limit of 65 miles per hour is more

than is .reasonable or safe. Therefore, the City Council
does hereby determine and declare the prima facie speed
limit of 40 miles per hour as the most appropriate speed
to facilitate the orderly movement of traffic and is reason-
able and safe.
Section 6173.4. Bolsa, Chica Avenue between Warner
Avenue and Bolsa Avenue. The City Council does hereby find
and determine upon the basis of an engineering and traffic
survey conducted by the Orange County Traffic Committee
that the prima facie speed limit of 65 miles per hour is
more than is reasonable or safe. Therefore, the City
Council does hereby determine and declare the prima ,facie
speed limit of 45 miles per hour as the most appropriate
speed to facilitate the orderly movement of traffic and Is
reasonable and safe.
Section 6173. 5. Signs. The prima facie. speed
limits as follows:
4o miles per hour upon Goldenwest Street between Mansion
Avenue and Ellis Avenue;
50 miles per hour upon Goldenwest Street between Ellis

45 miles per hour upon Warner Avenue between Edwards Street
and Cannery Street;
40 miles per hour upon Main Street between Clair Street and
Beach Boulevard;
40 miles per hour upon Talbert Street between Goldenwest
Street and Newland Street; and
45 miles per hour upon Bolsa Chica Avenue between Warner
Avenue and Bolsa Avenue,
shall be._:eff.ecti_ue when appropriate signs giving notice of
such prima facie speed limits are erected upon- said streets.
The Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed to
cause said signs to be erected.
Section 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the pass-
age and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the same
to be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach News
a weekly newspaper, printed, published and circulated in the
City of Huntington Beach, California, and thirty (30) days
after the adoption thereof, the same shall take effect and be
In force.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach, California, this 24th day of June, 1963.

ing City Clerk of the City of Huntington BEach and ex-officio
Clerk of the City Council of the said City, do hereby certi-
fy that the whole number of members of the City Council of
the City of Huntington Beach is five; that the foregoing or-
dinance was read to said City Council at a regular meeting
thereof held on the 17th day of June _, 1963, and
adjourned
was again read to said City Council at a regular meeting there-
of held on the 24th day of June 1963, and was
passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of more than a
majority of all the members of said City Council.
