AN ORDINANCE' OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON
BEACH ADDING SECTIONS 9710.1 and. 9712. 2
TO ARTICLE 971 AND AMENDING SECTION 9254-
OF ARTICLE 9 25 OF THE HUNTINGTON BEACH
ORDINANCE CODE.
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does
ordain as follows:
Section 1. That sections 9710.1 and 9712. 2 are here.
by added ,to Article 971 of the Huntington Beach Ordinance
Code to read in words and figures as follows:
Section 9710.1. Non-Conforming Sims. Any non-conform-
sign, structure, statuary or billboard maintained for adver-
tising purposes shall be completely removed . or changed to a
permitted use within five (5) years from the time this Section
takes effect or such becomes non-conforming..
Section 9712.20 Destruction of a Non-Conforming Use.
If any non-conforming use or non-conforming structure is de-
stroyed by fire, explosion, act of God or act of the public
enemy to an extent of fifty (50) percent of the value thereof,
then said use or structure shall be subject to all provisions
of the District in which it is located. Value of the use or
structure destroyed shall be determined by the official
records of the Orange County Assessors Office for the fiscal
year during which said destruction occurred®
Section 2. That Section 9254 of Article 925 of the

Huntington Beach ordinance Code is hereby amended, and as
amended, shall read in words and figures, as follows:
Section 9254. SIGNS: All Permitted Uses '- only lighted
or unlighted signs which advertise the use and/or business
of occupants located on the premises shall be erected in
this District, subject to the following conditions :
Section 92 4.1. The total aggregate sign area for all uses,
excepting residential uses, shall not exceed one (1) sq.ft.
for each two (2) feet of premises frontage. Said signs shall
not exceed one hundred (100) sq. ft. and need not be less
than 25 sq., ft.
Section 9254.2. The total aggregate sign area for- residen-
tial uses shall not exceed one (1) sq. ft. for each four(4)
feet of premises frontage.. Said signs shall not exceed fifty
(50) sq. ft. and need not be less than fifteen (15) sq. ft.
Section 9254. 3. signs may be located on any part of the prem-
ises. Prior to locating any detached sign or signs within
twenty (20) feet of either side lot line, permission shall
first be obtained from the owner or lessee of the adjoining
property nearest the sign location and filed with the Build-
ing Department. For the purpose of this Section a detached
sign shall be defined as a sign which projects more than one
(1 ) foot from the surface of a building.

Section 9254.4. If the sign is not attached to a building,
each support shall not exceed eight (8) inches in width or
diameter. If more than one support is used, a clear unob-
structed opening not less than thirty (30) inches wide shall
be provided and maintained between supports.
Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the pass-"
age and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the same to
be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach News, a
weekly newspaper, printed, published and circulated in the City
of Huntington Beach, California, and thirty (30) days after the
adoption thereof, the same shall take effect and be in force.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach, California, this 7th day of December,1964.

City Council of the City, do hereby certify that the whale number of
members of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach is five;
that the foregoing ordinance was read to said City Council at-a regular
meeting thereof held on the day of 1964,
16th November
and was again read to said City Council at a regular meeting thereof
held on the 7th day of December 1964, and was passed
and adopted by the affirmative vote of more than a majority of all the
members of said City Council.
