AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON
BEACH RELATING TO STOPS; AMENDING ARTICLE
621 OF THE HUNI'INGTON BEACH ORDINANCE CODE
BY REPEALING ALL SECTIONS THEREOF AND ADD-
ING SECTIONS THERETO.
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does
ordain as follows:
Section 1. That all sections of Article 621 of Chapter
62 of the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code are hereby repealed.
Section 2. That the following sections are hereby add-
ed to the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code to read in words
and figures as follows:
Section 6211, Driving from Alleys. The operator of a
vehicle emerging from an alley, driveway or garage, in the
business district, shall stop such vehicle immediately prior
to driving onto a sidewalk or onto the sidewalk area extended
across any alleyway.
Section 6212. Those streets, and parts of streets, which
form, the most recent revision of the Master Plan of Arterial
Streets and Highways of the City of Huntington Beach, as
adopted by the City Council, are hereby declared to be through
streets for the purpose of this chapter. Other streets and
parts of streets declared to be through streets by resolution
of the City Council are listed in "Schedule. A" on file in the
office of the Director of Public Works.

Section 6213. Whenever any resolution of this city
designates and describes a through street, it shall be the
duty of the Director of Public Works to place and maintain
a stop sign, or on the basis of a traffic engineering survey
at any intersection, a yield sign, on .each and every street
intersecting such through street unless traffic at any such
intersection is controlled by traffic-control signals , pro-
vided, however, that at the intersection of two such through
streets or at the intersection of a through streets and a
heavy traffic street not so designated, stop signs shall be
erected at the approaches of either of said streets or of
both said streets upon the basis of a traffic engineering
study.
Section 6214. The Director of Public Works is hereby
authorized to determine and designate intersections where
particular hazard exists upon other than through streets and
to determine (a ) whether vehicles shall stop at one or more
entrances to any such intersection, in which event the Di-
rector of Public Works shall cause to be erected a stop sign
at every such place where a stop is required, or (b)whether
vehicles shall yield the right-of-way to vehicles on a diff-
erent street at such intersection in which event he shall
cause to be erected a yield sign at every place where
obedience thereto is required. Stop intersections are desig-
nated in "Schedule S". Yield intersections are designated
in"Schedule C". Schedules B and C are on file in the office
of the Director of Public Works.

Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage:
and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the same to
be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach News,
a weekly newspaper, printed, published and circulated in the
City of Huntington Beach, California, and thirty (30) days
after the adoption thereof, the same shall take effect and
be in force.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach, California, this 3rd day of May ,
1965.

members of the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach is five;
that the foregoing ordinance was read to said City Council at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 19th day of April 1965,,
and was again read to said City Council at a regular meeting thereof
held on the 3rd day of May , 196-5 and was
passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of more than a majority of
all the members of said City Council.
