AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON
BEACH AMENDING THE HUNTINGTON BEACH OR-
DINANCE CODE BY REPEALING SECTION 2114. 2.9
AND ADDING 'ARTICLE 534' ENTITLED " -FORTUNE
TELLING PROHIBITED" AND NEW SECTIONS OF
SAID ARTICLE.
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach
does ordain as follows:
Section 1. That Section 2114.2.9 is hereby re-
pealed.
Section 2. That a new article is hereby added. to
Chapter 53 of the Huntington Beach Ordinance Code, which
new artX,cle shall read In words and figures, as follows :
ARTICLE 534
FORTUNE TELLING - PROHIBITED
Section 3. That the following new sections are
hereby added to Article 534 of Chapter 53 of the Huntington
Beach Ordinance Code, which new sections shall read In
words and figures as follows:
Section 5341. Fortune Telling, Etc. Prohibited.
No person shall carry on, practice or profess to practice
the business or art of astrology, palmistry, phrenology,
life-reading, fortune telling, cartomancy, clairvoyance,
clairaudience, crystal gazing, hypnotism, mediumship,

spirit photography, spirit writing, spirit voices, spirit
materialization, etheralization, prophecy, augury, divina-
tion, magic, necromancy, character reading, or fortune tell-
ing by handwriting analysis, or other similar business or
art, and demand or receive directly or indirectly, a fee,
gift, donation, or reward for the exercise or exhibition.
Section 5342. Same. Teaching. No person shall
teach or give instruction in astrology, palmistry, phrenol-
ogy, life reading, fortune telling, cartomancy, clairvoyance,
clairaudience, crystal gazing, hypnotism, mediumship,spirit
writing, spirit voices, spirit materialization, etheralize-
tion, prophecy, augury, divination, magic, necromancy, or
other similar business or art and demand, ask, or receive
directly or indirectly, a gift, fee, donation or reward for
such teaching or instruction.
Section 5343. Penalty. Any person violating any
provision of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a mis-
demeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by
a fine of not to exceed Five Hundred Dollars ( 500.00) or
by imprisonment in the City or County Jail for a period of
not to exceed six (6) months, or by both such fines and
imprisonment.
Section 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the
passage and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the
same to be published by one insertion in the Huntington Beach

News, a weekly newspaper, printed, published and circulat-
ed in the City of Huntington Beach, California, and thirty
(30) days after the adoption thereof, the same shall take
effect and be in force.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City
of Huntington-Beach, +California, this 17th day of January
1966.

I , PAUL C. JONES, the duly elected, qualified, and
acting City Clerk of the City of Huntington Beach and ex-
officio Clerk of the City Council of the said City, do hereby
certify that the whole number of members of the City Council
of the City of Huntington Beach is five; that the foregoing
ordinance was read to said City Council at a regular meeting
thereof held on the �3rd day of January 1 19 66 , and
was again read to said City Council at a regular meeting thereof
held on the 17th day of January , 19 66 , and was
passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of more than a
majority of all the members of said City Council.
