HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #1390 ORDINANCE No. 1390 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH PROPOSING AMEND- MENTS TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF HUNT- INGTON BEACH AND PROVIDING FOR THE SUBMISS- ION OF THE SAME. TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS THEREOF FOR ADOPTION AND RATIFICATION AT THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE 9th DAY OF APRIL,1968. ' The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does ordain as follows: SECTION 1. The .following amendments to the Charter of the City of Huntington Beach hereby are proposed to be submittee to :-the qualified,. electors of the City of Huntington Beach for rat- ification and adoption at the General Municipal Election to be held in said City on April 9, 19689 and said proposed amendments shall be submitted as separate propositions and said proposed amendments and propositions are hereby enumerated as follows: PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT No. 1 Sections 500, 5019 502 and 503 of the Charter of the City of Huntington Beach are hereby amended by deleting from each such section any reference to the City Attorney and by add- ing Section 703.1 to said Charter to read: "SECTION 703.1. The City Attorney shall be appointed by the City Council and shall serve at its pleasure. At the time this section takes effect, the office Of City Attorney shall become vacant and shall remain vacant until the City Council appoints a City Attorney as provided for in this section." The form of the proposition to be printed upon the bal- lot for the submission of proposed Charter- Amendment No. 1 to the qualified electors of the City shall be as follows: Ord. 1390 "Shall proposed Charter Amendment No.l amending Sections 5009 5019 502 and 503 of the Charter of the City of Huntington Beach and adding Section 703.1 thereto to change the City Attor- ney from an elective to an appointive officer the appointment to be made by the City Council, the appointee to serve at the pleasure of the City Council, be adopted?" PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT No. 2 Sections 5009 5019 502 and 503 of the Charter of the City of Huntington Beach are hereby amended by deleting from ea ch such section any reference to the City Treasurer and by adding Section 705.1 to said Charter to read: "SECTION 705.1. The City Treasurer shall be ap- pointed by the City Council and shall serve at Its pleasure. At the time this section takes effect, the of- fice of City Treasurer shall become vacant and stall remain vacant until the City Council appoints a ity Treasurer as provided for in this section. The form of the proposition to be printed upon the bal- lot for the submission of proposed Charter Amendment 2 to the qualified electors of the City shall be as follows: "Shall proposed Charter Amendment No. 2 amend- ing Sections 500, 5019 502 and 503 of the Charter of the City of Huntington Beach and add- ing Section 705.1 thereto to change the City Treasurer from an elective to an appointive officer, the appointment to be made by the City Council, the appointee to serve at the pleasure of the City Council, ~be adopted?" PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT No. 3 Sections 5009 5019 502 and 503 of the Charter of the City of Huntington Beach are hereby amended by deleting from each such section any reference to the City Clerk and by adding Section 704.1 to said Charter to read: 2. Ord. 1390 "SECTION 704.1. The City Clerk shall be appointed by the City Council and shall serve at its pleasure. At the time this section takes effect, the office ' of City Clerk shall become vacant and shall remain vacant until the City Council appoints a City Clerk as provided for in this section." The form of the proposition to be printed upon the bal- lot for the submission of proposed Charter Amendment No.3 to, the qualified electors of the City shall be as follows: "Shall proposed Charter Amendment NO-3 amending Sections 500, 5019 502 and 503 of the Charter of • the City of Huntington Beach and adding Sec- tion 704.1 thereto to change the City Clerk from an elective to an appointive officer, the appoint- ment to be made by the City Council, the appoint- ee to serve at the pleasure of the City Council, be adopted?" SECTION 2. The City Clerk, not less than forty days and not more than sixty days before the 9th of April, 19689 shall cause this ordinance to be published once in the official newspaper of the City of Huntington Beach, to-wit, The Huntington Beach News, a newspaper of general circulation within the City of Huntington Beach and in each edition thereof during the day of publication and shall cause copies of this ordinance to be printed in conven- ient pamphlet form and in type of not less than ten point and shall cause copies thereof to be mailed to each of the qualified electors of the City of Huntington Beach and shall, until the day fixed for the election upon such proposed amendments, advertise in the Huntington Beach News, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Huntington Beach, a notice . that copies. of such pro- 3• Ord . 1390 posed amendments may be had upon application therefor. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its adoption. SECTION 4. The mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall attest to the passage of this Ordinance.
