HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #2023 ORDINANCE NO. 2023 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH AMENDING THE HUNTINGTON BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE BY REPEALING SECTIONS 2 . 04 . 030 AND 2. 04 . 040, AND ADDING THERETO SECTION 2. 04 . 030 RELATING TO RESIDENCE AND REGISTERED VOTER REQUIRE- MENTS FOR ELECTION OF MUNICIPAL OFFICERS The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does ordain as follows : SECTION 1. Sections 2. 04 . 030 and 2. 04 . 040 of the Huntington Beach Municipal Code are hereby repealed. SECTION 2. The Huntington Beach Municipal Code is here- amended by adding thereto Section 2 . 04. 030 to read as fol- lows : 2. 04 . 030 Residence and registered voter requirements for elective officers. No person is eligible to hold any elec- tive office in the city of Huntington Beach unless that person is at the time of assuming such office a resident and a reg- istered voter of the city and was a resident and registered voter of the city for not less than thirty (30) days prior to the time he filed nomination papers . No person shall be appointed to fill a vacancy in an elective office in the city unless that person is at the time of assuming such office a resident and a registered voter of the city and was a resident and registered voter of the city for not less than thirty (30) days prior to the effective date of such appointment . Any elective officer of the city, whether elected or ap- pointed, shall at all times during his term of office be a resident and a registered voter of the city, and if during his term of office he moves his place of residence outside of the city limits or ceases to be a registered voter of the city, his office shall immediately become vacant. SECTION 3 . This ordinance shall take effect thirty days after its adoption. The City Clerk shall certify to the pas- sage of this ordinance and cause same to be published within 1. DPB:ahb fifteen days after adoption in the Huntington Beach News , a weekly newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in Huntington Beach, California.
