AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH
AMENDING THE HUNTINGTON BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE
BY REPEALING SECTIONS 2. 04 . 020, 2. 04 . 060,
2 . 04 . 070 AND 2. 04 . 080 THEREOF AND AMENDING
SECTION 2 . 04 . 010 ALL PERTAINING TO ELIGIBILITY
OF CANDIDATES
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does
ordain as follows :
SECTION 1. The Huntington Beach Municipal Code is hereby
amended by repealing Sections 2. 04 . 020, 2 . 04 . 060, 2 . 04 . 070 and
2. 04 . 080 thereof.
SECTION 2. The Huntington Beach Municipal Code is hereby
amended by amending Section 2 . 04 . 010 to read as follows :
2. 04. 010 Purpose and intent . It is the purpose and
intent of the city council, in enacting the ordinance codified
in this chapter, to place realistic and enforceable limits on
the amount individuals may contribute to political campaigns
in municipal elections and to prevent the exercise by campaign
contributors of potential undue or improper influence over elected
officials. The city council finds that municipal elections are
historically municipal affairs and consequently the city of
Huntington Beach, a charter city, is not preempted by general
state laws from regulating contributions in local elections .
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect thirty days
after adoption. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of
this ordinance and cause same to be published within fifteen days
after adoption in the Huntington Beach News , a weekly newspaper
of general circulation, printed and published in Huntington Beach,
California.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 5th
day of April, 1976.
