HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #2050 ORDINANCE NO . 2050 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH AMENDING THE HUNTINGTON BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE BY REPEALING SECTIONS 2. 04 . 020, 2. 04 . 060, 2 . 04 . 070 AND 2. 04 . 080 THEREOF AND AMENDING SECTION 2 . 04 . 010 ALL PERTAINING TO ELIGIBILITY OF CANDIDATES The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does ordain as follows : SECTION 1. The Huntington Beach Municipal Code is hereby amended by repealing Sections 2. 04 . 020, 2 . 04 . 060, 2 . 04 . 070 and 2. 04 . 080 thereof. SECTION 2. The Huntington Beach Municipal Code is hereby amended by amending Section 2 . 04 . 010 to read as follows : 2. 04. 010 Purpose and intent . It is the purpose and intent of the city council, in enacting the ordinance codified in this chapter, to place realistic and enforceable limits on the amount individuals may contribute to political campaigns in municipal elections and to prevent the exercise by campaign contributors of potential undue or improper influence over elected officials. The city council finds that municipal elections are historically municipal affairs and consequently the city of Huntington Beach, a charter city, is not preempted by general state laws from regulating contributions in local elections . SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect thirty days after adoption. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance and cause same to be published within fifteen days after adoption in the Huntington Beach News , a weekly newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in Huntington Beach, California.
