AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH
AMENDING THE HUNTINGTON BEACH ORDINANCE CODE
BY AMENDING SECTIONS 9lo6 . 5 THEREOF AND ADDING
SECTIONS 9700 . 3 . 7 AND 9700. 15.1 THERETO, AND AMEND-
ING THE HUNTINGTON BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE BY AMENDING
SECTION 10 . 44 . 060 THEREOF AND ADDING SECTION
10 . o4 .135 THERETO, ALL PERTAINING TO OVERSIZED
VEHICLE PARKING REGULATIONS
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does ordain
as follows :
SECTION 1. The Huntington Beach Ordinance Code is hereby
amended by amending Section ,9106 . 5 to read as follows :
9lo6 .5 PERMITTED PARKING AREA. Oversized vehicles may be
parked or stored on private property in all yard areas except
the required front yard setback and any side yard abutting a
street right-of-way. Semi-trailers, camp trailers, campers
and/or house cars may be parked on the apron in front of a
garage or within that portion of the required front yard setback
located between the driveway and the side property line closest
to the driveway if:
(1) the trailer or vehicle doe& not project over any
property line;
(2) the parking or storage area has a paved or graveled
surface; and
(3) the area around said trailers and vehicles is kept clean
and free of trash, debris and/or parts .
No commercial oversize vehicle or special purpose machine
shall be parked or stored in any poriton of any yard area.
SECTION 2. The Huntington Beach Ordinance Code is hereby
amended by adding thereto Sections 9700 . 3 .7 and 9700 . 15. 1 to
read as follows :
9700 . 3 .7 COMMERCIAL VEHICLE. A commercial vehicle is any
vehicle, motorized or nonmotorized, that is used or maintained
for .the transportation of persons for hire, compensation, or
profit; or designed, used or maintained for the transportation
of property.

9700. 15.1 OVERSIZE VEHICLES. An oversize vehicle is any
vehicle, motorized or nonmotorized, that exceeds twenty-five (25)
feet in length, or exceeds seven (7) feet in width, and/or
exceeds seven (7) feet in height . Oversize vehicles shall
include all buses, truck tractors, semi-trailers, motor trucks,
trailers, campers, camp trailers, house cars, trailer coaches
and other equipment or machinery regardless of width, length
or height .
(1) Buses . A "bus" is any motor vehicle, other than a
motor truck or truck tractor, designed for carrying more than
ten (10) persons, including the driver, and used or maintained
for the transportation of passengers.
(2) Camp Trailer. A vehicle designed to be used on a
highway, capable of human habitation for camping or recreational
purposes, that does not exceed sixteen (16) feet in overall length
from the foremost point of the trailer hitch to the rear extremity
of the trailer body and does not exceed ninety-six inches (96" )
in width and includes any trailer coach.
(3) Campers . A camper is a structure designed to be mounted
upon a motor vehicle and to provide facilities for human habitation
or camping purposes . A camper having one axle shall not be con-
sidered a vehicle .
(4) House Car . A house car is a motor vehicle originally
designed, or permanently altered, and equipped for human habitation
or to which a camper has been permanently attached.
(5) Motor Truck. A motor truck is a motor vehicle designed,
used, or maintained primarily for the transportation of property.
(6) Semi-trailer. A semi-trailer is a vehicle designed for
carrying persons or property, used in ,connection with a motor
vehicle, and so constructed that some part of its weight and that
of its load rests upon, or is carried by, another vehicle .
(7) Trailer. A trailer is a vehicle designed for carrying
persons or property on its own structure and for being drawn by
a motor vehicle and so constructed that no part of its weight
rests upon any other vehicle.
(8) Trailer Coach. A trailer coach is a vehicle, other
than a motor vehicle, designed for human habitation, or human
occupancy for industrial, professional, or commercial purposes,
for carrying property on its own structure, and for being drawn
by a motor vehicle .
(9) Truck Tractor. A truck tractor is a motor vehicle
designed and used primarily for drawing other vehicles and not
so constructed as to carry a load other than a part of the weight
of the vehicle and load so drawn.
SECTION 3. The Huntington Beach Municipal Code is hereby

amended by amending Section 10. 44 .060 to read as follows :
10. 44 . 060 Oversize vehicle parking regulations . (a) No
person shall park and leave standing upon any public street or
highway in a residential district any motor vehicle of a length
in excess of twenty-five feet; further provided that also
prohibited from being parked on public streets and highways in a
residential district is any vehicle used or maintained for the
transportation of persons for hire, .compensation, or profit; and
designed, and used, or maintained for the transportation of
property, including buses, motor trucks, trailers, semi-trailers,
trailer coaches or truck tractors as defined in the Vehicle Code
and similar vehicles of a width in excess of ninety inches as
measured at the widest portion of the body not including mirror
or other extensions; or any item of farm machinery or special
purpose machine . Prohibited vehicles may be parked on public
streets and highways while loading or unloading persons and/or
property; or when such vehicle is parked in connection with,
or in aid of, the performance of a service to or on a property
in the block in which such vehicle is parked; or to perform
repairs of an emergency nature on the motor vehicle itself,
for a maximum of seventy-two (72) consecutive hours .
(b) No person shall at any time park or leave standing
a nonmotorized vehicle, or camper regardless of width or length,
when it has been detached from its motor vehicle on any public
street or highway in the city.
SECTION 4. The Huntington Beach Municipal Code is hereby
amended by adding thereto Section 10 . 04 . 135 to read as follows :
10. 04 .135 Residential district . A "residential district"
is an area that is primarily used as the location for single
family and multiple family dwellings . In determining whether
a street is within a residential district, any street or portion
of a street abutting single or multiple family dwellings except
those streets and portions of streets designated as "truck routes"
per Section 10. 24 . 010 of the Municipal Code, shall be considered
within a residential district .
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect thirty
days after its adoption. The City Clerk shall certify to the
passage of this ordinance and cause same to be published within
fifteen days after adoption in the Huntington Beach News, a
weekly newspaper of general circulation, printed and published
in Huntington Beach, California .
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the nth

all the members of said City Council.
