AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH
AMENDING THE HUNTINGTON BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE BY
REPEALING SECTION 10 . 40. 260 THEREOF, AMENDING
SECTIONS 10 . 08 .010 AND 10. 08 .130 THEREOF AND
ADDING A NEW SECTION 10. 40. 260, ALL PERTAINING
TO ENFORCEMENT OF TRAFFIC REGULATIONS
The City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does
ordain as follows :
SECTION 1. The Huntington Beach Municipal Code is hereby
amended by repealing Section 10. 40 .260 thereof.
SECTION 2 . The Huntington Beach Municipal Code is hereby
amended by amending Sections 10 . 08. 010 and 10. 08 . 130 thereof to
read as follows :
10. 08. 010 Traffic direction--Authority . Officers, reserve
officers, service officers and cadets of the police department
and marine safety officers and such special officers of the
department of harbors and beaches as are assigned by the chief
of police are authorized to direct all traffic by voice, hand,
audible or other signal in conformance with traffic laws,
except that in the event of a fire or other emergency or to
expedite traffic or to safeguard pedestrians , officers of the
police department or members of the fire department may direct
traffic as conditions may require, notwithstanding the provisions.

10. 08 .130 Vehicle removal by police. Officers, reserve
officers, service officers and cadets of the police department
as are assigned by the chief of police are authorized and may
remove or cause to be removed:
(a) Any vehicle that has been parked or left standing
upon a street or highway for seventy-two (72 ) or more consecu-
tive hours; -
(b) Any vehicle which is parked or left standing upon a
street or highway between the hours of seven a.m. and seven
p.m. when such parking or standing is prohibited by ordinance
or resolution of this city and signs are posted giving notice
of such removal; and

(c) Any vehicle which is parked or left standing upon a
street or highway where the use of such street or highway or a
portion thereof is necessary for the cleaning, repair or con-
struction of the street or highway or for the installation of
underground utilities or where the use of the street or highway
or any portion thereof is authorized for a purpose other than the
normal flow of traffic or where the use of the street or highway
or any portion thereof is necessary for the movement of equip-
ment , articles or structures of unusual size, and the parking of
such vehicle would prohibit or interfere with such use or move-
ment; provided that signs giving notice that such vehicle may be
removed are erected or placed at least twenty-four (24) hours
prior to the removal .
(d) Any vehicle which is parked or left standing in any
city-owned or operated parking lot when such parking or standing
has been prohibited by ordinance or resolution.
SECTION 3. The Huntington Beach Municipal Code is hereby
amended by adding thereto Section 10 . 40 .260 to read as follows:
10. 40. 260 General parking regulations--Enforcement . The
provisions of this title regulating the stopping, standing or
parking of a vehicle shall be enforced by officers, reserve
officers , service officers and cadets of the police department
and marine safety officers and such special officers of the
department of harbors and beaches as are assigned and authorized
by the chief of police .
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect thirty days
after its adoption. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage
of this ordinance and cause same,to be published within fifteen
days after adoption in the Huntington Beach News, a weekly
newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in
Huntington Beach, California.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 6th
day of December, 1976. K

that the foregoing ordinance was read to said City Council at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 15'th day of November,
19 76 , and was again read to said City Council at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 6th day of December, 19 76 , and
was passed and adopted by the affirmative vote of more than a majority of
all the members of said City Council.
