HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #3951 _74M ORDINANCE NO. 3951 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH AMENDING CHAPTER 5.24 OF THE HUNTINGTON BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE NUMBER OF PERMITTED MASSAGE ESTABLISHMENTS Findings: In the interest of public health, safety, and welfare, the City wishes to curb the practice of sex oriented businesses disguised as massage establishments from doing business in the City of Huntington Beach. In addition, these establishments are an integral component of the illegal trafficking of women. The Police Department has reported a proliferation of said illegal establishments in the City in recent years. As a result, the City of Huntington Beach is limiting the number of business license tax-certificates to thirty (30) so that the business may be more easily tracked and monitored for illegal activity. NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby ordain as follows: SECTION 1. Section 5.24.165 is hereby added to Chapter 5.24 of the Huntington Beach Municipal Code said section to read as follows: 5.24.165 Number of Business Licenses Limited. After the effective date of this ordinance, no more than thirty (30) business licenses for massage establishments or organizations will be issued by the City. Existing massage establishments or organizations with valid business licenses will be permitted to continue operating and shall be permitted to renew their business license annually unless a violation of HBMC Title 5 has occurred. SECTION 2. This ordinance shall become effective 30 days after its adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the-day of 2012.
