HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 6 December 6th, 1909 RESOLUTION #6 WHEREAS, Messrs. C. V. Imeson and S . L. Blodget have applied to the United States Department of War for a permit to erect structures for amusement purposes on the beach opposite the City of Huntington Beach, between First and Eleventh Streets; and, WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees, after consultations with the citizens of this City, feel that it is for the best interests of this municipality that more amusements be established in this City, within certain territorial limits; and, WHEREAS, Messrs. C. V. Imeson and S. L. Blodget have appeared before this Board and explained the objects of their said applications, and have agreed to enter into a written indenture net to erect any buildings upon the ter- ritory extending from Sixth to Eleventh Streets, near upon the territory within seventy-five feet of the extended lines of Fourth Street, in the City of Huntington Beach; and have further agreed to hold any permit which they may re- ceive covering the said territory in trust for the said City of Huntington Beach as far as the same may be in their power; and, WHEREAS, this City is absolutely without modern amusements to attract pleasure seekers; and, WHEREAS, Messrs . Imeson and Blodget have acted in entire good faith with this Board of Trustees and its con- stituents, and their project, if carried out as planed, will undoubtedly be of great benefit to this City in every way; and, Res . #6 Page 2 WHEREAS, we have been officially advised by our legal counsel that we have no power to grant any rights to the said Imeson and Blodget upon the said beach, and, WHEREAS., this natter being of vital interest to this municipality and our constituents, we feel that we should do all that is within our power to encourage the contem- plated project. NOW THEREFORE, be it Resolved, that it is the sense of this Board that it is heartily in favor of all under- takings leading to the expenditure of money, the establish- ment of enterprises, or the construction of buildings in the City of Huntington Beach or in any manner tending to increase the commercial activity of our municipality. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Board at this time especially approves the project of Messrs. Imeson and Blodget to erect amusement structures within this city ac- cording to their plans as explained to this Board, with the limitations hereinbefore set forth. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the city Clerk of this City deliver to Messrs. Imeson and Blodget three cer- tified copies of this resolution upon the execution of the afore-mentioned agreement . BRADBD'RY, City Clerk of the City of Hunt- ington Beach, hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the Board of Trustees of the said City of Huntington Beach at a regular meeting of said Board held on the Sixth day of December, 1909, by the following vote: AYES: Helme, Stewart, Manning NOES: None ABSENT: Warner, Howard E.
