Lindgren, secretary of the Board of Library Trustees of the City of Huntington Beach, has this evening reported that the Huntington Beach Company has offered certain lots of land in this city for the uses of the Library, providing there is built thereon a library building to cost at least $5,000; and, WHEREAS, the said Secretary further reports splendid progress by the said library since its organization; and, WHEREASs the mass of citizens of this City are anxious to do all in their power to make ample provision for a library; and, WHEREAS, this Board last year levied a tax of fif- teen cents on the $100.00 for the benefit of the said library amounting to nearly one-sixth of the gross income of the City, and can in the future levy as high as thirty cents on the $100.00 of assessed valuation for the benefit of the said library, which would amount, under present con- ditions, to $3000 per year; and, WHEREAS, the present Board of Trustees of the said Library desire to perfect an application to Andrew Carnegie, Esq. , for funds with which to construct a building on the said lots; and, WHEREAS, this Board cannot bind its successors in office in the matter of the tax levy, but, feel that the moral effect of a preponderating public opinion in favor of the Library should be crystallized at this time into a resolution. • Res. 100 Page 2 . NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board of S Trustees of the City of Huntington Beach, California, does hereby recommend to their successors in office that they appropriate liberally, as far as necessary and possible to the support of any library that may be secured and constructed through the efforts of the said Huntington Beach Company and the said Andrew Carnegie. I, E. R. BRADBURY, City Clerk, hereby certify that the above Resolution was adopted at a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Huntington Beach held at the City Hall on the 21st day of February, 1910, by the following vote: AYES: Helme, Stewart, Warner, Manning NOES» None ABSENT: Howard E.R.
