HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 238AA CANVASS AND RITURN ~ 1 of the vote cast at the general biennial municipal election held April 13, 1914, in the City of Huntington Beach, Calif- ornia , for the purpose of electing municipal officers and vot- ing upon the propositions Lawfully submitted to the electors of. said city at said election. s } This being the first Monday after the holding of said election and the time fixed by law for the canvassing of the returns of said general biennial municipal election held on k the said ,13th day of April, 1914; and the Board of Trustees being satisfied that said election was fairly and honestly conducted for the purpose of electing two members of the Board of Trustees for four year terms, and a clerk and treasurer for two year terms ; and for the purpose of voting upon the following proposition, to wit: "Shall each member of the Board of Trustees receive as co ensation for his services the sum of .Two and 507100 ($2.50 , per meeting of the Board of Trustees attended byhim, not to exceed two meetings in any one calendar month. " 1 On motion of Trustee =� seconded by Trustee and duly carried, the said Board of Trustees proceeded fairly and in the manner provided by law to canvass the returns of said electionfor the vote cast for each of the respective persons voted upon as candidates for the office of trustee; and the candidates voted upon for ' the office of city clerk and city treasurer; and upon the i proposition "Shall each member of the Board of Trustees receive as comppensation for his services the sum of Two and 50/100 (P.50 per meeting of the Board of Trustees attended by him, not to exceed two meetings in any one calendar month." And the Board of Trustees having completed their work of canvassing the returns of said general biennial munic- ipal election of 'said city held on the 13th day of April, 1914, finds and declares as follows: 1. That the whole number of votes cast in the City of Huntington Beach, California, at said general biennial munic- ipal election held on the 13th day of April, 1914, was 380., 2. That the names of the persons voted for, the office to fill which each person was voted for, and the propositions voted upon, are as follows, to wit: -3- R a n That the following named persons were voted for to fill two vacancies ugon said Board of Trustees of said city, to wit C. S. Bundschuh, D. IV. Huston, H. F. Shorting, W. 7. Tarbox and C. N. Varner. That- the following named persons were voted for to fill the office of City Clerk of said city, to wit: H. B. Little and C. R. Nutt. That the following named persons were voted for to fill the office of City Treasurer of said city. to wit: R. 'g. Craves, Linden, A. P. Middleton, J. T. Reed and. C. W. Warner. That more than a majority of said electors of said City of Huntington Beach voting at said general biennial municipal election held on the 13th day of April, 1914, voted in favor of the election of D. W. Huston to the office of Member of. Board of Trustees of said city for four year term, and said D. W. Huston is hereby declared elected to said office. That more than a majority of said electors of said City of Huntington Beach voting at said general biennial municipal election held on the 13th day of April, 1914, voted in favor of the election of W. A. Tarbox to the office of Member of Board of Trustees of said city for four year term, and said W. 7. Tarbox is hereby declared elected to said office. That more than a majority of said electors of said City of Huntington Beach voting at said general biennial municipal election held on the 13th day of April, 1914, voted in favor of the election of C. R. Nutt to the office of City Clerk of said City for two year term, and said C. R. Nutt is hereby declared elected to said office. That more than a majority of said electors of said City of Huntington Beach voting at said general biennial municipal e- lection held on the 13th day of April, 1914, voted in favor of the elect4n of R. 7. Graves to the office of City Treasurer of said city for two year term, and said R. F. Graves is hereby declared elected to said office. That more than a majority of said electors of said City of Huntington beach voting st said general biennial ffiunicipal e- lection held on the 13th day of April, 1914, voted in favor of -5- • said proposition set forth in the foregoing; canvessa and said proposition is hereby declared carried, and that the compensation mentioned in said proposition shall be paid to the said trustees in accordance with law and the .aforesaid election. The said Board of Trustees further finds and declares that notice of the time and place of holding said general biennial municipal election for the purposes hereinbefore set forth was given by publication in a newspaper published and circulated in the City of Huntington Beach , California, and that said publi- cation was made in the Huntington Beach News once a week for a period. of two weeks prior to the holding of the aforesaid election and was published therein on the following dates, to wit: March 6, 1914, and March 13, 1914. That said notice was published as aforesaid and is in the words and figures following, to wit f'NOTICS .OF MUNICIPAL '-TLR IONr' "Notice is hereby given that a general municipal election will be held in the City of Huntington Beach, California, on Monday, the 13th day of April, 1914, for the purpose of electing two members of the Board of Trustees for four year terms; and a clerk and treasurer for two. year terms; and for the purpose:. of voting upon any proposition that may lawfully be submitted to the electors of said city at said election. "For the purpose of said election said city is consolidated into, and hereby established as, one municipal election precinct known as Municipal Election Precinct No. 1, the boundaries of which shall be coincident with the boundaries of said city, and shall comprise and include all of the territory included in Precinct No. 1 and Precinct No. 2 of said City of Huntington Beach as fixed and determined by the Board of Supervisors of Orange County, California. The polling place for said municipal election in said con- solidated municipal election precinct is hereby fixed and designated to be held in the City Hall of Huntington Beach, California, "The officers of said election, who shall be known as the Board of llection of such consolidated Municipal Election Precinct No.1, are hereby appointed and designated to be as follows: Inspectors: W. R. Morgan, L. R. Whitney. Judges: A. I Griffith, Md Manning. Clerks: George IN. Wardwell, T. R. Canady. The said election shall be held in accordance with the ordinances of the City of Huntington Beach and in accordance with the general election laws of the State of valifornia, so far as the same may be applicable. "The polls will be opened at six o'clock A. M. on the morn- ing of the day of said election, and will be kept open until seven o'clock P. M. of the same day, when the polls shall be closed.
