NO. 444
ORDERING THE WORK
RESOLVED, that whereas the Board of Trustees of
the City of Hi.intington Beach, Ce.lifornia., chid on the 14th
day of July, 1924, pass its Resolution of Intention No.
440 to order the 'her ina.fter described rork to be done and
improvement to be made in said City which Resolution. of
Intention was duly and legally published as reouired by
law, as appears from the affidavit of Elson. G. Conrad now
on file in the office of the City Clerk of said City and
°71HERFM, notices of the passage of said Resolu-
tion of Intention No. 440 headed "P�lotice of Improvement"
wan duly and legally posted along; the lines of said con-
templated work and improvement and in front of all the
property liable to be assessed therefor, and on and along
all the open streets and alleys within the assessment dis-
trict described in said. Resolution of Intention, in time,
form, manner and number as required by law, after the
passage of said Resolution of Intention, as appears from
the affidavit of E. M. Billings the Stre�:t Superintendent
of said City, who personally ported the same and who upon
the completion of the Posting of said notices, filed said
affidavit in the office of the C ty Clerk, makin`-., oath
that he completed the posting of said notices on the 22nd
day of July, 1924, and;

'rr 'aREAS; all protests or objections presented
have been dis-oosed of in time, form and manner as required
by law, and said Board of Trustees having now acquired
,jurisdiction to order the proposed improvement, it is
hereby
RESOLVED; That the public interest and convenience
require the work herein described and the Board of Trustees
of the City of Huntington Beach hereby orders the follow-
ing �rork to be done and improvement to be made in said
City, to-wit:
1. The grading to the official grade thereof of
said Orange Avenue in said City for the entire 17ridth of
said Orange Avenue from property line to property line
together with the intersections of intersecting streets
and alleys between property lines of said streets and al-
leys and from property line to property 11ne of said
Orange Avenue from the Test property line of Lake Avenue
to the Southeasterly property line of 23rd Street excep-
ting therefrom any of said work already done to the of-
ficial grade and also excepting therefrom the intersection
of said Orange Avenue with 13th Street. The grades shown
on the plans, profiles and cross-sections herein referred,
to shall for the purpose of this Resolution be deemed to
be the official grades.
2. The paving of the roadway of said Orange Ave-
nue in said City from curb line to curb line together
with the intersections of intersecting streets and. alleys

between curb lines of said intersecting streets and alleys
and from property line to property line of said Orange
Avenue from. the ':Vest property lane of Lake Avenue to the
Southeaoterly property line of 23rd Street with a pavement
consisting of a two (2) inch asphaltic concrete (Topeka)
we,�,ring surface laid upon a four (4) inch asphaltic con-
crete base, excepting therefrom the intersections of said
Orange Avenue iith 3rd Street, rTa.in Street, 5th Street,
6th Street, Rth Street, 9th Street, loth Street, llth
Street, 13th Street, 14th Street, 15th Street, 16th Street,
17th Street and any of said �firork already done to the of-
ficial grade.
3. The construction of the fol10-v71.n---r corrugated
galvanized iron half-round ten (10) gua,ge culverts on a.
two (2) inch thick cement concrete base, said culverts to
be fifteen (15 ) inches wide at the b,:.se with a five (5)
Inch rise. Two culverts as above described one (1) of
which shall be constructed and ,placed in said roadway with
the inner edge of said culvert contiguously and adjacent
to the curb line produced of 7th Street in said City on
each side of 7th Street at the intersection of 7th Street
and said Orange Avenue , crossing said Orange Avenue with
feeders to the same on the Easterly and Southerly corners
of said intersection as shown on the plans. Two culverts
as above described, one of which shall be constructed and

Avenue produced on each side of, said Orange Avenue at the
intersection of said Orange Avenue and 12th Street and
crossing said 12th Street with feeders to the same on the
Southerly and 'Nesterly corners of said intersection as
shown upon the plans. Two culverts as above described,
one of which shall_ be constructed and placed in said road-
way with the inner edge of said culvert contiguously and
adjacent to the curb line of said Orange Avenue produced
on each side of-)Orange Avenue at the intersection of .said
Orange Avenue and 14th Street and crossing said 14th Street
with feeders to the same on all four corners of said in-
tersection as shown upon the Diane. Two culverts as
sbove described one of iinich shall be constructed and
placed in said roadway with the inner edge of said cul-
vert continuously and adjacent to the curb line of l8th
Street produced on each side of lath Street at the inter-
section of said 18th Street and Orange Avenue and cross-
ing Orange Avenue with feeders to same on all four cor-
ners of said intersection as shown upon the plans.. Two
culverts as above described, one of which shall be con-
structed and placed in said roadway with the inner edge
of said culvert contiguously and adjacent to the curb
line of 19th Street produced on each side of 19th Street
at the intersection of 19th street and said Orange Avenue
and crossing said Orange Avenue with feeders to the same
on the Northerly and Testerly corners of said intersec-

Lion as shown upon the plane. Tyro culverts as above de-
scribed, one of which shall be constructed and placed .n
said road gray vrith the inner edge of said culvert contig-
uously and adjacent to the curb line of 20th Street pro-
duced on each side of 20th Street at the intersection of
said 20th Street and Orange Avenue and crossing said Orange
Avenue as shoixn upon the plans. Two culverts as a'Dove de-
scribed, one of which shall be constructed a.nd placed in
said roadxay with the inner edge -of said culvert contig-
uously and adjacent to the curb line of 21st Street pro-
duced on each side of 21st Street at the intersection of
said 21st Street and Orange Avenue P.nd crossing said Orange
Avenue with feeders to the sa.me on all four corners of said
intersection as shown upon the plans. Two culverts as
above described, one of which shall be constructed and placed
in said roadway with the inner edge of said culvert con-
tiguously and a.d,jacentbto the curb line of 22nd Street
produced on each side of 22nd Street at the intersection of
said 22nd Street and Orange Avenue and crossing said
Orange Avenue with feeders to the same on the northerly and
Westerly corners of said intersection as shown upon the
plans.
Cement concrete headwalls shall be constructed
at the ends of the above culverts and feeders and at the
ends of culverts now in place where and as shown on the
plans and detail sheets for said headwalls.
4. The construction of curbs, sidewalks and curb

returns as shown upon the -ola.ns and detail sheets for said
curbs, sidewalks and curb returns on both sides of said
Orange Avenue and at the intersections with intersecting
streets and alleys from property line to property line
from the '3est curb line of Lake Avenue to the said South-
easterly property line of 23rd Street excepting however
from all of the above described curbs, sidewalks and curb
returns such portions of said work as may be already done
to the official grade.
5. The construction of an ornamental lighting
system described as follows: Forty two (42) ornamental
single light standards fully equipped with a single light,
tWenty one (21) of said single light standards shall be
located on the Southwesterly side of said Orange Avenue
and twenty one (21) of said lights on the Northeasterly
side of said Orange Avenue; said lights shall be divided
into two circuits, one circuit shall take in all lights
on both sides of said Orange Avenue , East of the alley
running Northensterly and Southwesterly throl_Igh Block
313 Huntington Beach Tract and Block 413 Huntington Beach
17th Street Section, the other circuit shall take in all
lights, '.Pest of said alley. The lights on the Southwester-
ly side of said Orange Avenue shall be connected with
3/4 inch galvanized electric conduit placed under ground
adjacent to the curb lines, the lights on the Northeas-
terly side of Orange Avenue shall be connected with the
lights on the Southwesterly side by one inch conduit as

shown on the lighting plan; said lights shall be spaced
approximately 241.6 feet apart; both of said circuits shall
terminate at the pole of the Southern California. Edison
Company which is situated 12 feet Northwesterly from the
Northwesterly alley line produced in Block 313 Huntington
Beach Tract, and 212 feet Southwesterly from the Southwes-
terly curb line of said Orange Avenue, which shall be the
feed-in point for said circuit. For a more particular
description of said lighting system "reference is hereby
made to said plan, profile and cross-section of said work.
The grade to which all of the above described
work shall be done and improvement made, shall be the
grade as shown on the plan, profile and cross-section
therefor adopted by the Board of Trustees of the City of
Huntington Beach, and now on file in the office of the
City Engineer, to which plan, profile and cross-section
reference is hereby made.
All of the foregoing work is fully set Forth,
delineated and described in the said plan, profile and
cross-section and specifications therefor to which re-
ference is hereby made for a complete, full, particular
}.nd detailed description of the work,

All of the said work and improvement shall be done
as shown upon and according to the plan, profile and cross-
section therefor numbered New Series 15 in 6 sheets and

FI.ccording to specifications numbered 41 for grading of
roadways and the coonstruetion of asphaltic concrete base
and asphaltic concrete (Tore?:e) wearing surface pavem. ent,
headers, culverts, headwalls, sideuralks, curbs and curb
returns and specifications numbered 1112 for the construction
of c ,,nduits, ornamental lighting standards and lights on
file in the office of the City Clerk of said City, all of
which plans, profiles, cross-sections and specifications
have been aporoved and adopted by the Board of Trustees
of the City of Huntington Beach as the plans, profiles,
cross-sections and specifications to be followed in making
said improvement and by reference theretov-1, the same are
incorporated herein and made a, part hereof and reference
is hereby made thereto for P full, complete and more pa.r-
ticular description of said work.
The City Clerk of said City is hereby directed
to post a notice of said. !�ror.k together vr-l.th the plans
^nd specifica.tions therefor conspicuously for five (5)
days on or near the Council Chamber door of said City
inviting; sealed proposals or bids for doing the work or-
dered.
He is also directed to publish twice a notice
inviting such proDosals, and referring to the specifica-
tions posted or on file , in the Hunting^ton Be<:_ch News a

Meekly ne 2paper published and circulated in said City
and hereby designated for that purpose.
All proposals or bids shall be accompanied by a..
check payable to the City of Huntington Beach certified
by a. resp,7rsible bank for an amount which shall not be less
than ten (10) percent of the aggregEte of the proposals, or
by a bond for said. amount and so payable, si£ ned by the
bidder and two (2) sureties, who shall ,justify before any
officer competent to administer an oath, in double the said
amount , and over and above all statutory exemr,tions.
Said proposals or bids shall be delivered to the
Clerk of the Board of Trustees of said City on or before
7:30 o'clock P. i. . of the 18th day of August , 1924,,
said time being not less than ten (10) days from the time
of the first publ.icstion and posting of this notice. Bids
will be opened on said. day and hour.
